A clever idea, but I honestly don't think I'd pay even a tenth of what they're asking. Just seems a bit....pointless.

Near-IR spectrometer, probably. With a database of fingerprints for common beverage types. I wonder if it's really as accurate as it says.

Interesting. I could see how that works for prepackaged mass produced drinks, but i'm not sure how accurate it would be when it comes to things like an on-the-spot made drink from Starbucks etc... They seem to be pretty confident though!

It's £70 + import duty to get one sent to the UK and it isn't out till 2015.
If it was out now I expect I would order one, but that is a long pre-order wait!

My main problem with it though, is that it doesn't fit with my "must use every cup, plate and utensil before I can be arsed to think about putting stuff in the dishwasher, let alone wash by hand" lifestyle.

As a manufacturer of chemical detection systems, I doubt the usefulness and ability of this product.
