Spearhead has been on the release schedule for about a year.

I remember when someone posted on the old Restoration Team forum speculatively asking whether it would ever be worth releasing Spearhead on Blu-Ray/HD format. The answer was a resolute negative, reasoning that the relative clarity of 16mm film was comparable to an SD telly picture and there would be nothing particularly gained from an HD version. Even director Kevin Smith, never one shy to ring a buck out of his own back catalogue, was heard to have baulked at a Blu-Ray release of Clerks, similarly shot on 16mm albeit in monochrome.

The same people who said Who would never be released on DVD because it was too expensive to master.

Robin Of Sherwood is 16mm and looks good on Blu-Ray. HD it isn't but it is a good step up from the previous DVD releases.

Spearheads film stock is some 13 years older than the first series of Sherwood but I reckon it should look reasonably good on Blu-Ray.

Some screen caps of Robin Of Sherwood should give some indication of what 16mm looks like on Blu-Ray:

I guess they were always going to be a part of it but if we really are only going to have one 'episode' with a slightly extended length i'd rather they focused on one thing rather than throw everything and the kitchen sink in

Yeah, but from my understanding of it, some of the Anniversary special takes place during the Time War (hence John Hurt's Doctor) - so the Daleks kind of have to be there for that.

I don't care. Daleks are dull. I know they've tried to make them scarier and more menacing but an enemy that you can gently job away from is not interesting to me.

Rumours knocking around that Paul McGann has recorded "something" for the 50th birthday special in the last few weeks.

Interesting that it has happened a while after the main shoot has wrapped, thereby allowing all the Doctors to legitimately deny they had done anything when it was being shot. Then when the fuss has died down, they go and do their bits and they'll be no more questions as they spent all of May saying they hadn't been asked.

Just a Chinny theory.

There were rumors that there would be a web episode or something similar showing McGann becoming Hurt (as in his regeneration)

No way they'd got for anyone older than Tennant now. The US market is too buoyant to risk it with "Ooooh, gross! He's so OLD! Bring back Matt Smith!"

Is there any reason in the canon why it has to be a white male?

Don't believe so.

I always thought Patterson Joseph would be great as the Doctor.

Sexist though it may be, however, but I'm really not sure about the idea of actually changing the Doctor's gender though.

I believe there has been reference to a Timelord that changed genders, but it was considered unusual.

Nothing mentioned regarding race, AFAIK.

He was one of the names mentioned before Matt Smith , and I agree he would make a really good Doctor.

I don't think they will change from a white male but on screen cannon has mentioned the changing of sex and ethnicity - I'm specifically thinking of The Doctors Wife episode by Gaimen when he mentioned the Corsair (?) who was the person who sent out the cube that the Doctor picked up was mentioned to be male and female at some point.

Of course since its written by Moffat you could also mention The Curse of Fatal Death when we ended with the Doctor as played by Joanna Lumley

** Edit - Didn't realise this has actually been around since Shada **

http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/The_Corsair
Quote:
The Corsair was a Time Lord, described by the Eleventh Doctor as "one of the good ones". The Corsair took on different sexes throughout many incarnations. The Doctor noted that when the Corsair was female, "she was a bad girl."

Quote:
The Fourth Doctor once said to Romana that he should meet up with the Corsair sometime; he described the Corsair as both male and female in the same sentence, implying one of his regenerations had already been female.

It would take more than 7 grand for me to watch Animals again. Brrrr.

B7 is odd. I can't think of any series that goes from fantastic to shit and back again often in the space of a few minutes so it should at least be entertaining.

Looks like we'll find out who the 12th is this weekend

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvan ... unday.html

Quote:
On Thursday, rumours suggested that the actor playing the 12th Doctor Who may be announced this weekend. Now the BBC have confirmed that fans will be able to find out Matt Smith's successor in a live show at 7pm on Sunday.

The next Doctor will be revealed to the nation in a special one-off live television show hosted by Zoe Ball. The actor will then give their first ever interview in front of a live studio audience, the TARDIS and a few Daleks. Previous Doctors and companions will also be present for the announcement, which will take place after feature clips and a potted history of the show's 50 years on British screens.

Matt Smith, who will step down from the role at the end of this year, will speak about what it takes to be the Doctor and showrunner Steven Moffat will explain about what it means to take on one of the biggest roles in TV. Moffat gave little away about the new Doctor, but said: "The decision is made and the time has come to reveal who’s taking over the TARDIS. For the last of the Time Lords, the clock is striking twelve."

Another rumour has been confirmed by the BBC: the fact that the codename Houdini (rather than Whodini) has been used to disguise the casting decisions. Ben Stephenson, controller of BBC drama comissioning said: "Amongst all the speculation and betting, there has been lots of fun and intrigue at work as we've been using the codename Houdini as a decoy! It’s the biggest secret in showbiz."

I remember how appalled a lot of people here were when David Tennant and Matt Smith got the job, so I'll probably stay out of this thread for a week or so once the announcement has been made.

Doctor Who: read the fan letter bookies' favourite Peter Capaldi wrote to Radio Times aged 15

If the Thick of It star and avid Who fan really is in the frame to replace Matt Smith, he'll find it very difficult to say no...

Yesterday, Peter Capaldi's name entered the frame as the 2-1 favourite to play the next Doctor, the 12th or possibly 13th Doctor (depending on how we'll factor John Hurt's incarnation into the official sequence).

How likely is such a high-profile casting? Despite Steven Moffat's wish for an older Time Lord, the former The Thick of It star's availability and how much dosh such a top-drawer actor might cost the BBC, the most important factor that could swing it is that – like David Tennant before him – Peter Capaldi is a Doctor Who fan. And I mean a HUGE Doctor Who fan.

He was a key figure in the world of fandom in the 1970s, even pre-dating the formation of DWAS (the Doctor Who Appreciation Society) in 1976. Aged 15, he pinned his colours to the mast in this letter published in Radio Times in February 1974.

http://www.radiotimes.com/uploads/image ... 34582.jpeg

Earlier this year I met Capaldi on the set of An Adventure in Space and Time, the forthcoming drama about Doctor Who's inception. He is friends with Mark Gatiss and had taken time out of his schedule to visit the studios in Wimbledon. We chatted briefly while watching scenes being filmed on, let's just say, a historical setting, and on the lovingly recreated Tardis set. We were both thrilled at what we saw and I could see then that he remains as big a fan today as he was four decades ago.

If Peter Capaldi's name truly is in the frame and he's offered the part, surely he'd find it irresistible.
