Robin Of Sherwood is 16mm and looks good on Blu-Ray. HD it isn't but it is a good step up from the previous DVD releases.

Spearheads film stock is some 13 years older than the first series of Sherwood but I reckon it should look reasonably good on Blu-Ray.

Yeah, but from my understanding of it, some of the Anniversary special takes place during the Time War (hence John Hurt's Doctor) - so the Daleks kind of have to be there for that.

I don't care. Daleks are dull. I know they've tried to make them scarier and more menacing but an enemy that you can gently job away from is not interesting to me.

Rumours knocking around that Paul McGann has recorded "something" for the 50th birthday special in the last few weeks.

Interesting that it has happened a while after the main shoot has wrapped, thereby allowing all the Doctors to legitimately deny they had done anything when it was being shot. Then when the fuss has died down, they go and do their bits and they'll be no more questions as they spent all of May saying they hadn't been asked.

Just a Chinny theory.

There were rumors that there would be a web episode or something similar showing McGann becoming Hurt (as in his regeneration)

Don't believe so.

I always thought Patterson Joseph would be great as the Doctor.

Sexist though it may be, however, but I'm really not sure about the idea of actually changing the Doctor's gender though.

I believe there has been reference to a Timelord that changed genders, but it was considered unusual.

He was one of the names mentioned before Matt Smith , and I agree he would make a really good Doctor.

I don't think they will change from a white male but on screen cannon has mentioned the changing of sex and ethnicity - I'm specifically thinking of The Doctors Wife episode by Gaimen when he mentioned the Corsair (?) who was the person who sent out the cube that the Doctor picked up was mentioned to be male and female at some point.

Of course since its written by Moffat you could also mention The Curse of Fatal Death when we ended with the Doctor as played by Joanna Lumley

B7 is odd. I can't think of any series that goes from fantastic to shit and back again often in the space of a few minutes so it should at least be entertaining.

Yesterday, Peter Capaldi's name entered the frame as the 2-1 favourite to play the next Doctor, the 12th or possibly 13th Doctor (depending on how we'll factor John Hurt's incarnation into the official sequence).

How likely is such a high-profile casting? Despite Steven Moffat's wish for an older Time Lord, the former The Thick of It star's availability and how much dosh such a top-drawer actor might cost the BBC, the most important factor that could swing it is that – like David Tennant before him – Peter Capaldi is a Doctor Who fan. And I mean a HUGE Doctor Who fan.

He was a key figure in the world of fandom in the 1970s, even pre-dating the formation of DWAS (the Doctor Who Appreciation Society) in 1976. Aged 15, he pinned his colours to the mast in this letter published in Radio Times in February 1974.

Earlier this year I met Capaldi on the set of An Adventure in Space and Time, the forthcoming drama about Doctor Who's inception. He is friends with Mark Gatiss and had taken time out of his schedule to visit the studios in Wimbledon. We chatted briefly while watching scenes being filmed on, let's just say, a historical setting, and on the lovingly recreated Tardis set. We were both thrilled at what we saw and I could see then that he remains as big a fan today as he was four decades ago.

If Peter Capaldi's name truly is in the frame and he's offered the part, surely he'd find it irresistible.
