I am quite amused though that the £75 mobile expenses I claimed for under 4 days in t'US the other week were almost entirely "CHRIST US AIRLINES FUCKING SUCK" apart from "OOH A NICE MERKIN BEER WHO KNEW"

What does disturb me is that the US government has said Prism only applies to none US citizens so does that mean everything we do on Facebook, Skype, SKYDrive is subject to NSA snooping? Not that I have anything to hide, but why the fuck should the NSA have access to my wedding pictures?

The US has been milking the impact of 911 for yeas in order to do anything they like. One of the biggest reasons so much damage was done is that the US had little or no internal flight security at the time of 911, if anything had come of snooping on phones or emails then maybe it wouldn’t have happened.

Our government are a joke, you have Hauge stuttering that he can’t comment on Prism, after half the UK press have and there are NSA presentations confirming it on the internet. So you can bet that the UK security agencies have been filling their boots getting info on us and bypassing the “stringent” laws and rules Cameron has been blowing on about today in the process.

I was reading the Financial Times this morning (its left by our work coffee cart and there was a queue!)

After the initial denials by Google, Facebook etc, they are now saying that the NSA blocks them from publishing any information about what details they hand out. Further more they are saying that they want to publish high level information on number of requests etc

I sort of agree with the "nothing to fear if you are doing nothing wrong" statement but at the same time it gets to me that they can just look at pictures, emails etc when ever then want.

Also it would probably be secretly run by the CIA and you would be instantly added to their drone target shit list.

Isn't that sort of stuff "in the public domain" according to US law, as it is stored on a company's server somewhere, so you cannot expect a right to privacy over it due to whatnots and dinktspunkts?

Mind you, it's the vagaries of US law at work here*, and, frankly, I wouldn't trust that lot to run a 400m relay race, let a lone a country. It's probably safe to say that most of the technologically advanced powers can do this, they jsut don't have disaffected citizens fighting for a higher cause.

*I find it hard to get cross with laws in other coutnries. If I were to, I suspect I'd be permanently cross.

While this is fucking abhorrent for all sorts of reasons, the idea that Google are furious about interception of their data makes me laugh like a drain.

Pretty much, if you follow the letter of the law. I'm sure if any trouble did arise you could argue your case in court that as it's effectively out of your control, you're innocent of any breach.

Conversely, I suppose GCHQ are exempt from the DPA, else that'd be one really fun subject access request to pay a rennet for.
