Friends is just fucking awful. The only time I would ever watch Friends again is if it was The One Where Their Stupid Flat Catches Fire And They All Burn To Death.

We finally watched the final episode of episodes last night.

I can't recall laughing that much at something for years. It was patchy at times but that was a season finale of sheer genius.

The whole

Well, Zeppo and I are back from That London.

Surprisingly, Batman Live, whilst not bad, wasn't particularly good either. The storyline was OK, but the fight scenes were painful to watch. None of the punches or kicks felt as if they had any real weight behind them, which is really what you want to see from a Batman production. Even the 1966 TV series fight scenes felt more realistic.

Other than that, some good performances. Not actually much in the way of Batman in it, depressingly, but the Joker stole the show (as he always seems to do whenever he turns up in Batman media.)

Perhaps now I might actually put the Arkham Asylum disc into my 360, had it almost since launch and haven't played it yet.

You should - it's a brilliant game. I watched Batman Begins yesterday and Dark Knight today and while they were both good (if over-long), it's made me want to play through Arkham Asylum again.

Also watched the first episode of Dexter this evening. Not sure if I'll watch the rest of the season though as it didn't really grab me. Maybe it's because if I want to follow the adventures of a socially inept workaholic, I don't really have to look too far.

I agree it's slow to start (we've just started re-watching them, well I have, Joans hadn't seen it before), I'd certainly give it until at least episode three before you give up on it.

It does start annoyingly, to be fair, and the long glorified cut scenes annoyed me. And many of the unlockable gadgets were pretty redundant. But I loved it overall. Gloriously face-punchy.

Of course, if you're not into it, that's up to you I suppose. It's entirely reasonable if you want to be a big wrongly wrongimer.

It was fun, but a bit repetitive. And the fact that it was gorgeous but the way the game worked meant you had to have the wireframe overlay on all the time was a bit daft.

I'd like to ask the BBC, Lockerbie bombing guilt or no, what possible thing they could hope to achieve by ringing the doorbell of a man in the last stage of dying of terminal cancer.

Quite literally disgusted.

There we go, my first ever 'angry of Tonbridge Wells' complaint.

Quote:
Complaint type:

BBC News

Location:

England

What is your complaint about:

TV News

Transmission date:

29/08/2011

Complaint category:

Offence

Complaint summary:

Harrassment of a man dying of terminal cancer for apparent audience gratificaiton.

Full complaint:

At five past eleven this evening I saw a BBC news reporter explain that a man was dying from the last stages of terminal cancer, surrounded by his family, inside a villa. Footage of the man was shown, emaciated in bed. The BBC News reporter then walks up to the door of the man's house and expresses his intention that he will try to get a response from those inside, and rings his doorbell. This is in Tripoli, and the man is Abdelbaset Ali al-Meghari. Regardless of whether this man was guilty or not, what did the BBC hope to achieve by:

1: Attempting to get into contact with a man in terminal pain.
2: Attempting to find a response from a family who were certain not to reply.
3: Going through this action in front of the British public.

Please answer this, and tell me also how in the public interest is it to interview a dying man. Tell us the facts, yes. Tell us his condition, and any family statements they have volunteered. Do not attempt this petty form of emotional manipulation and bowing to any public notion of 'justice'. But this action has sickened me. I hold the BBC in the highest regard, I admire their news journalism and feel they are the greatest journalistic institution we have. But this has severely shaken my faith. You have trespassed on dignity and on basic human rights for what strikes me as audience gratification. Pray never do this again.

Yeah, but remove that aspect and it was rubbish. To avoid missing stuff you needed to use shit-o-vision the entire time, with there being no advantage to not using it. And the cut scenes were annoying. And the combat was okay, but nothing new or special. It just reminded me of Splinter Cell 453: Costume Stealth!!!

Excellent letter Pete.
I didn't see the broadcast, but the whole tone of the coverage (essentially, 'he's finally dying!') has been quite sickening.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday afternoon and was shocked. I would expect that from the Murdoch press, but not the BBC.

I hope you signed it off "Brigadier D.I.S. Gusted" after that.

However, strongly agree. I was actually amazed anyone came to the door too - note that there was a cut in the footage between saying he would ring the bell and then someone answering. They could have been stood there for quite some time (and not just that it took the guy a long time to get there).

Batman is a shit hero.

His 'just throw money at it' attitude to crime fighting is poor.

Billions of dollars spent to allow him to beat muggers to a pulp doesn't feel particularly efficient, does it?

There was a good comic from Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal that addressed this point and had a mugger complaining to Batman how his parents had also been killed as a kid etc, but the difference between how their lives turned out was basically that Bruce Wayne was rich. And a jerk.

Friends is fantastic, it's one of my favourite ever American TV shows.

I have the complete 10 series DVD boxset.

It's good value for money. You never see them on TV.

After 15 years of entertainment, this weekend will be the last time you'll see Friends on C4 and E4.

Admit it, you'll miss it.

If it's repeats of "According to Jim", which is by far the worst sitcom to ever receive more than one series, then I for one will miss "Friends".

I watched 2 minutes of The Middle, once. See also, My Family and My Hero. You'd better have some pretty fucking compelling evidence for that statement to stand up to scrutiny.

My Family isn't even in the same league as My Hero. My Hero is the worst thing since that one with Jasper Carrott.

I couldn't sleep the other night and stumbled across The War at Home on E4 at about 3am. I had never heard of it before. It is the worst recent sitcom I've seen. For some reason I watched both episodes that were broadcast.

I wish C4 would repeat Just Shoot Me! again - I really enjoyed that.

Is Two Pints of Lager (etc) a sitcom? If it is, then THAT is the actual winner of this dubious award.

"According to Jim" is worse than all of the above.

And given the competition, that's pretty damn awful.

You all owe it to yourself to watch one episode of this show, to see how truly awful it is. Even the wife agrees it is awful, and she'll watch anything.
