As for Paternal leave generally, our species has made it quite clear for millennia. It is women who take care of the children until they are weaned. Once children, both sons and daughters, reach the age of puberty, then the discipline and stature of their fathers are required and necessary to help them make the transition to adulthood.

The constant, socially engineering (Bolshevik) attacks on Fatherhood and Fathers in our culture has led directly to the loss of discipline and the art of self-control in our country. It has also increased the numbers of those describing themselves as "homosexual".

You don't get any extra after April, but if the wife doesn't use her full allowance, you can use what's left over, apparently.

Ok, I've read it now and you're right. Since MrsP's taking a full year anyway, I wouldn't get any extra.

I'll be doing the 2 weeks paternity leave and 2 weeks annual leave.

One good thing about this place is I can just phone up my boss on the day of the arrival and say, 'see you in a month!'. :metul:

INORITE?

I have, coincidentally just emailed HR to find out the company policy. I'm not going to be a dick about it, but first babies are often overdue (so I've been led to believe)

Statutory requirement is 15 weeks notice before expected date of birth. You can change this by giving 28 days notice.

Hey, I don't make the company policy rules. All I know is it's cushy for me as my company does it sensibly.

Lots of other places are :belm: about it. Eh, DavPaz?

For the record, the baby's due on the 22nd Feb. I've pre booked off from the 21st until the 4th of March. I should (fingers crossed) be ok with that.

No. I didn't say that.

All I'm saying is they know how much leave I want to take, when he's due (roughly) and I'll be calling them when I want the leave to commence.

This is, of course, how it should work. Tell them when it's due, and fuck of for x weeks (three at my place) when it comes out.

That can't be right, DavPaz.

When I took paternity leave, I had to inform my HR department of my intention to take it 15 weeks before the due date and provide an estimate of the dates I'd need off (in other words, two weeks following the due date). But they didn't actually expect me to take the time until the baby was born.

As it happened, Zioette was two weeks overdue, so I continued going in to work each day as normal until I got the phone call from the ex that she'd gone into labour. I told the boss, he sent me home and I returned two weeks later.

I would imagine it's the same everywhere.

Yeah, I wrote "morning sickness" as a suggestion to why GJ was feeling ill.
But I didn't quote her.

It looks like I'll be off most of March then we have the bumper Easter break weekends because of the Royal Wedding. It'll be Christmas before we know it.

My company pays the difference between stat paternity pay and my wages, so I basically get two extra weeks off with no issue.

I think most places do this now.

My company only offered two days paternity at full pay - the rest was statuary. Still, if they thought that was going to stop me taking the full two weeks off on top of my existing 25 days annual leave, they were mistaken.

Seven weeks off work in 2009! It was like I was hardly there!

I think I get two weeks full pay but I'm also going to take an additional two as annual leave. I can't remember the last time I was off work for that long.

Apparently doing two weeks off, one week back, one more off, one more back and then one more off is more useful to the mother, as it gives her time to adjust to suddenly being on her own.

Yeah I can see how that might be true. But since I work from home I reckon I'll just take it all in one go (unless work means I can't :( ).
