Well of course I had to investigate... The unit is an Xpelair DX100WT.
You push two clips and the bottom half comes off (has a power pin thing that detatches as you remove) and on that part are male pins (3 off) a fan and the guard ETC.
There's also a small circuit board with a resistor and a cap and what looks like a potentiometer
When I removed it I thought that either Columbians had lived here before or that some one was throwing handfuls of talc into the air. It was literally full of white powder. Once hoovered off I realised that the white powder was ground fan
haha that explains why it has been rattling like a pig.
Tis indeed three wires. A brown one, a blue one and a white one. I went to Expelair's website and found a manual for the newer units (they look the same only they're all fuckin' fancy now with moisture sensors ETC) and yeah, same thing pretty much.
I need to undo 4 screws, hang it out on the duct and remove the duct and wire up three wires. Ten minute job (once the power is off) and I'm not paying some wankoid £55 for that. Honestly, when I say it's as easy as changing a lightbulb it's actually easier.

The extractor is £25, he means £55 for the labour!
Absolutely. Also, this is his 'under the table' price meaning no invoice and no proof he was fucking with our house at all. And I'm not overly comfortable with that if I'm honest. He could ghetto rig it and then fuck off into the night. Sod it, will do it myself.
