So, it seems that I may be made redundant in the coming months which sucks. It's not official yet, but it's best to be prepared.

Now, I haven't had to search for a job for 3 years+ and would appreciate some advice as I now there's been a few people here who've had to search for jobs recently.

Which jobs site would people recommend? If it helps.. I'm looking for a marketing job as that's what I'm currently doing now and to be fair, kind of like it.

Would it help to blanket my CV across as many as I can find or would employers be put off by this? Should I go for the targeted approach and possibly miss out on a job? It's very confusing.

Anyway, share stories below! :metul:

I recomend you google the word jobs & then post your CV on any forum listed ;)

The only non specialist ones I've used are s1jobs & the shitey job centre one.

Get in touch with one good, local recruitment agency that specialises in marketing, and add at least £5k to your desired salary.

Freelance. I'm always stumbling across freelance marketing cunts in my line of work. Most of them are cunts doing OK for themselves.

It was a serious suggestion. Do you have any idea how many freelance/one person company marketing people I deal with on a monthly basis? Pretty much all of whom used to work for large companies before going it alone.

I'm throwing that thought out there because not only are actual jobs hard to come by but ultimately my suggestion may be more rewarding.

Yes, one. Avoid Monster and everything else, you won't need them.

I had myself registerd with a few, but that is beacuse most It firms have prefered agencies, and can be different.

but teh fewer the better, and not cowboy ones....

I still have to find out which one submitted my cv to my current emplyers!!

My mother-in-law works for a very good recruitment agency that covers the whole country. They specialise in IT and Tech Jobs but do pretty much anything.

PM me and I'll give you the details if you like.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! It's good to have someone else opinion.

This place is driving me nuts now. Everyone know's that there's redundancies going on but no one knows who yet?

And there's no point doing any work because it's all for nothing.

The change in atomsphere happens so quickly when people know something like that is going and you don't even realise how much it has changed until you are somewhere else. I moved sites at the beginning of June and it was so different seeing people happy when going about their work and being busy all day. Much calmer and happier atmosphere as well. One thing worth remembering though is that some people are saved and from what i've seen, it's the people who kept their head down and carried on working despite the news.

The rest of the company will probably find out on the day I fly out on my honeymoon.

I think they do yes, but it's going to be hard to reach me as I wasn't planning on taking my phone or anything.

Maybe they'll leave a note under my pillow at the hotel I'm going to? It wouldn't surprise me.

There is a procedure to follow for redundancies, yes.

At my company someone did something similar by placing their redundancy letter in an Easter Egg and filmed it to show to the rest of the staff later. Some how no one found it funny and was sacked a few hours later.

Also I *think* to remove you they have do to something like notify you that you are "At risk" in writing and at that point they set a date to confirm. At that date they give you notice in writing that your going in X number of days/weeks (depending on contractual terms) and offer you some sort of redundancy deal. EDIT: In the past we've been able to negotiate some of the terms but I suppose that differs.

Not sure that is 100% correct though. Think there is a government website outlining the procedure and your rights.

Ideally, the employer announces to employees the rationale for the business changes, what they are and how it will be done. They might offer part time work, voluntary redundancies or early retirements. In 30 days, notice must be given of the number of redundancies, the consultation procedure and the mechanics of the selection process. The employees will be met, and evaluated against the selection criteria, and the selection is based upon this. Individual consultation of the lucky employees is a good idea, as it can remedy earlier procedural errors, and show the scores to the employee. It should be considered good form to try to to offer alternative employment within the firm, and an opportunity to appeal.
