Can someone recommend a beautiful song please? I am in the mood for listening to a beautiful song and have Youtube on standby for a search. I'm thinking along the lines of Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, Florence...someone like that (but not them.) Anyone?

That's exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. More pls. (I have spotify.)

Also, I just watched the video for Damien Rice 9 Crimes. WTF? (I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard that song because I was so excited about new Damien Rice material.)

Ha, one of the comments on the video for 9 Crimes is simply 'ZARDOZ.'

Enjoyed that one, cheers Grim..., not listened to that song for a while.

Malabar; well hello. I've not heard this before but it's lovely. More listening required, noted for later.

It played at the end of the Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man programme, as he was getting into London. It's lovely, very fitting, but needs to be played loudly.

Scott Matthews - Dream Song is quite beautiful, too.

Excellent! Is their other stuff along the same vein or is that a rarity for that band? Like Foo Fighters, I'm not too bothered with but their acoustic version of Everlong is gorgeous.

One you've almost certainly heard before, Gill. It used to get played in mine (& possibly Greg's) car a fair bit & no, it's not Tom Jones ;)

Yeah I know the song, it's a good one. I love when a good song is set perfectly to an uplifting bit of tv or something equally fitting, especially when it makes you hear the song with new ears. (is that an expression?!)

No singing in these, but here is Hybrid's Finished Symphony and the rather famous Poppiholla.

Oooo and Grim... throws a curveball! I wasn't expecting that sort of sound, put me in mind of Leftfield. I used to listen to Leftism when I got in from a night out clubbing and was chilling out...awesome stuff. Good times! This stuff is helping, thanks guys :luv:

I've been championing them for some time. I saw them live on stage a few years back, they had a full orchestra and it was fucking astounding.
It's like when you first see Pendulum on stage and realise that they've got a pair of drummers and everything is live - nuts.

There's a very lovely tune from Endless Ocean (Wii) called 'Prayer'. That's nice.

Gilly,

Apologies if these have been mentioned before, but the plebs before me ignored basic netiquette and posted links to things without saying what they were.

Anyway, I have no links at the moment, as I'm in the office, but do seek out some Ben Folds stuff. Especially 'The Luckiest', as it is very beautiful (mostly I prefer his up tempo numbers personally, but that and a few others are very beautiful).

Also, a very beautiful song is Tegan & Sara - "Where Does The Good Go".

You can't go far wrong with Fiona Apple or Jeff Buckley either.

 viewtopic.php?p=399838#p399838

I do agree about the whole "not saying what stuff is". If you think it's bad here, you should see some of the Land Rover forums I'm on. Threads with titles like "What does it mean when..." and "Why does it happen?" and "Turn the key...".

Anyhoo, they're all in the Spotify playlist. People should be able to drag their own songs into there, too.

Bit late to the party: A bit of Royksopp always goes down nicely I reckon.

Trying to catch up on all the songs I missed yesterday. I have heard this before but don't know where. Was it in a film? I like it anyway, nice to find out who it is and listen to it rather than just hear it (if you know what I mean.)

I just read some of the comments for that video because when I hear a beautiful song, I like to hear about how it affects and touches other people. I know it from the Gears of War trailer! I did not expect that to be the case.

I love Jeff Buckley and Tegan & Sara already (Tegan & Sara have a few pretty terrific songs). I'm going to start listening to Ben Folds. Fiona Apple I don't think I know so I'll get on that.

Listening to David Sylvian-Orpheus right now, as posted by DBSnappa. Very nice.

And if you like her, check out Hanne Hukkelberg, who's even better.

Aye, Fiona Apple is great.

And if you like her, check out Hanne Hukkelberg, who's even better.

She's skinny! 8) Fiona Apple I mean, I just found a load of videos on youtube so I'm listening to a couple. That girl needs a burger.

Will add Hanne Hukkelberg to the list thanks.

She's gorgeous!

Went to a gig of hers just after her first album came out. It was in a teeny tiny venue with no gap between people and stage. So I was stood leaning on the stage as she danced literally a foot away from me. I was in heaven.

My favourite songs by her:

1 - Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song)
2 - Sleep To Dream
3 - Fast As You Can
4 - Paper Bag
5 - Across The Universe (Beatles cover)

Ben Folds has a bazillion good songs . Dividing them up into slow and fast (ish) I'd go with (note - (as BFF) means as 'Ben Folds Five, his former band):

Slow:
1 - Missing The War (as BFF)
2 - The Luckiest
3 - Brick (as BFF)
4 - Don't Change Your Plans (as BFF)
5 - Evaporated (as BFF)

Fast:
1 - Underground (as BFF)
2 - Battle of Who Could Care Less (as BFF)
3 - Hiro's Song
4 - The Last Polka (as BFF)
5 - Song For The Dumped (as BFF)

Apologies for going on... I could have listed about a hundred songs there...

She's only signed in Australia, so all those are other-side-of-the-world imports. Miller-Heidke did that Facebook song that was on Youtube a while back.

Also, Regina Spektor should be in this list.
