Can someone recommend a beautiful song please? I am in the mood for listening to a beautiful song and have Youtube on standby for a search. I'm thinking along the lines of Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan, Florence...someone like that (but not them.) Anyone?

Also, I just watched the video for Damien Rice 9 Crimes. WTF? (I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard that song because I was so excited about new Damien Rice material.)

It played at the end of the Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man programme, as he was getting into London. It's lovely, very fitting, but needs to be played loudly.

Scott Matthews - Dream Song is quite beautiful, too.

Excellent! Is their other stuff along the same vein or is that a rarity for that band? Like Foo Fighters, I'm not too bothered with but their acoustic version of Everlong is gorgeous.

Yeah I know the song, it's a good one. I love when a good song is set perfectly to an uplifting bit of tv or something equally fitting, especially when it makes you hear the song with new ears. (is that an expression?!)

I've been championing them for some time. I saw them live on stage a few years back, they had a full orchestra and it was fucking astounding.
It's like when you first see Pendulum on stage and realise that they've got a pair of drummers and everything is live - nuts.

Anyway, I have no links at the moment, as I'm in the office, but do seek out some Ben Folds stuff. Especially 'The Luckiest', as it is very beautiful (mostly I prefer his up tempo numbers personally, but that and a few others are very beautiful).

Also, a very beautiful song is Tegan & Sara - "Where Does The Good Go".

You can't go far wrong with Fiona Apple or Jeff Buckley either.

I do agree about the whole "not saying what stuff is". If you think it's bad here, you should see some of the Land Rover forums I'm on. Threads with titles like "What does it mean when..." and "Why does it happen?" and "Turn the key...".

Anyhoo, they're all in the Spotify playlist. People should be able to drag their own songs into there, too.

I just read some of the comments for that video because when I hear a beautiful song, I like to hear about how it affects and touches other people. I know it from the Gears of War trailer! I did not expect that to be the case.

Went to a gig of hers just after her first album came out. It was in a teeny tiny venue with no gap between people and stage. So I was stood leaning on the stage as she danced literally a foot away from me. I was in heaven.

My favourite songs by her:

Ben Folds has a bazillion good songs . Dividing them up into slow and fast (ish) I'd go with (note - (as BFF) means as 'Ben Folds Five, his former band):
