LMFAO. I just had a bit of an accident. Thankfully my brain is well padded so I got out of it OK.

I was sitting in my chair Buddha style (legs crossed under me) like a weebl. I lifted my arms to stretch and leaned back when all of a sudden I heard this tremendous cracking sound and found myself all upside down and on the floor.

Not realising what the fuck had happened I untangled myself and this is what I have.

Hint : don't buy any furniture you put your safety on from Argos.

Any way, I want a new chair but this time I want cloth or fabric, want the cushioning to be super soft (cos this thing is like sitting on one of those old wooden school chairs) and it needs to cost around £80 or so.

Help !!

I either have or used to have that exact chair.

Oddly, for something I spend half the day sitting in, I can't actually remember what mine looks like these days.

I'm pretty sure that was my old one, which was replaced after more or less the same thing happened. I think in the end Bobbyaro cannibalised it for spare parts.

STAPLES.

Go there, look at ex display. Get one that isn't held together by the arms preferably.

My Argos chair went on me as well but in my case it was one of the legs that snapped propelling me backwards and slicing my shoulder open on the radiator behind.

I got one for £80 in PC World which is leather and has padded arms. Also ergonomic back which suits my back.

Not on the website for some reason that I can't fathom, definitely have them in store though.

Edit: Ahh just like the one above except only one leg went.

I hads the same chair, did the dame thing. They are cheap shit. Went to Ikea and got a similar one for the same price, much better build, but this too went the way of the great chair in the sky, so upgraded to a 100ish one from Ikea, V.good so far.

not held to gether by the arms = good thing.

I have one of those high-backed armchairs that pensioners love. Comfiest computer chair ever.

Failing that buy an Xbox*.

*So you can sit on the sofa.

Ikea is a no go sadly. Nearest one is nearly two hours by train and a 20 mins walk, and delivery is £65 here.

Where do you live? I thought you were down south somewhere? Well, take into account that a similar quality chair would cost about 100 quid more elsewhere. Failing that, find a local business that has just folded, should be a few, and buy an office chair off them for £50.

I'd never buy a 2nd hand chair. Imagine how many particles of other people's shite there are in the fabric after they've sat there farting all day.

I live near to Chichester. Nearest Ikea is Southampton, over an hour and a half (and £20) away on the train, and then a 20 min walk into an industrial park not really designed for pedestrians.

We do have a PC world, but sadly without a car you cannot reach it (see again industrial park in the middle of feckin nowhere).

I have found this site -

http://www.officefurnitureonline.co.uk/ ... hairs.html

I fear the chair I am considering won't link to properly due to the way the site works. But basically it's £69. I quite fancy it in blue, would make a nice change :)

EDIT, yeah it links OK :)

FTFMIC. Really comfy, a steal at £55. You really wouldn't want to lean back on crossed legs on it, though.

As I use it on a hard floor, instead of the hard floor castors (which don't lock when unloaded) I also got a Kolon floor protector. Kolon. Heh.

I've ordered from them before, pretty prompt, but I've never ordered a chair from them. I would have thought that's something you would want to try out first though?

Eh? It's in a bedroom that's magnolia and I have a choice of cream or white sheets with a cream and magnolia carpet. I don't like coloured bed sheets they don't feel the same. I have pine furniture and glass PC desk. So how does a black chair look nice in that?

They also have it in this colour, which would fit in just as well. But I want to out the black.

Have you been to Ikea in Southampton ? , if you come out of the train station you can *see* the top of the building and its at most 8-10 minutes walk away through a shopping area (which okay has a lot of parking for cars but its not an industrial park)

Although i'd agree going there by train to get a chair is not a good move , and although your last Argos chair went bad theres no reason why you should rule them out (at least you've got quite a good range of chairs and will get reasonable delivery)

I've seen it from the station Zaph. I have to change there when pretty much going anywhere (Oxford, Manc etc).

Problem is with these high back chairs is they're so darn heavy !

Any way, I went to Staples and looked through their clearance line. Sadly the same cream chair (pretty much identical with metal important bits) was £80 on clearance + del. The office place? well theirs had VAT sneaked on at the end (crafty gits) but free shipping, so it came to £79.35 del. So I've ordered that one :)

The high-back chair I pointed at has a sort of stretchy net back, and comes semi-flat pack.

Still pretty fucking heavy, though, to lug about trains and that.

I did pretty much the same damage as JC to my chair (broke the plastic arm that holds the back onto the seat), but I did it by drunkenly tripping over it in the dark. I emailed Viking (from where I bought it) late that same Friday night, confessing all, stating it was entirely my fault, but asking if it was possible to buy replacement arms.

Imagine my surprise at getting the following email early on Saturday morning:
Quote:
Dear Nik

Thank you for your email.

Not a problem, I will re order another set of arms on your account for you

free of charge we will despatch these on Monday for you so they should

arrive on Tuesday

I love Viking. :)

Hey everyone. Chair arrived today. I didn't hear anything from them yesterday (the scheduled ship date) so I emailed their CS last night around 8. Woke up with this in my inbox.

Quote:
Good Morning,

I have been informed that you will receive delivery of your chair today. My apologies to the delay as it seems your order was misplaced of the system by accident. Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay and any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

(A nice lady).

To which I replied.

Quote:
Thanks (A nice lady) ! sounds good to me. I've been sitting on a chair with no back or no arms like a refugee for a week now so it will come as a relief.

Do you know which courier is delivering it? and are there any tracking details?

Thanks, and thanks for your timely response.

To which I recieved this -

Quote:
Good Afternoon,

I am glad you will have a chair with arms and a back now!

Yes we use the courier City Link. Tracking number is XXXXXXXXX

Kind Regards

(A nice lady)

OK about an hour later the chair arrived. The leather is like a woman's thighs. It really is the most gorgeous supple leather I've seen. I started putting it together and the fit and finish was absolutely top notch. Padding is three times thicker than the chair before, arms are heavy solid and well padded.

Sadly right as I was about to meet the two parts I noticed this.

Image

Which isn't the end of the world. For reasons my next email sum up.

Quote:
Hi (A very nice lady). The chair arrived about twenty minutes ago.

I put it together and it's a lovely solid chair, but I have got a small problem with it.

On the outside of one of the armrests it looks like the arm has been pinched in transit or packing and there are two small holes in the leather. I don't mind this that much because I am desperate for a chair but I wondered what the warranty is on the chair?

What worries me is that the lovely soft leather (tremendous as it is) may split over time and I have had chairs where the arms go and you end up with a sharp piece of metal poking out into your elbow. Obviously right now they are only about 5mm each (one worse than the other) but I'm afraid that over the coming months they could get worse.

I attatch a picture. Sorry about the poor quality. If I add flash to the camera because the chair is white you cannot see the holes, and if I remove flash they come out fuzzy. I can try to get more later.

Thanks again, other than the two small holes it's a lovely incredibly solid chair, probably among the best quality I have seen.

Andy

So basically I was whining very quietly and fully prepared to leave the chair as it is and take my chances. Within five minutes of sending that email though?

I got this.

Quote:
Good Afternoon,

My apologies for the inconvenience you have received. Could you please tell me which armrest it is so I can send a replacement for you free of charge. Also the chair has a year warranty.

Many thanks & kind Regards

(my new friend).

So hey, really can't ask for more than that. My favourite part though was not only does the box have their company name all over it but they seem to carry all the spare parts for their chairs. Saving you the bollock busting aggro of packing it all back in the box and sending it back.

The chair itself is just gorgeous, no flex in the arms and no creaks or noises (unlike the last one) and is like sitting in a soft cloud. I love it.

So very strongly reccomend that company :)

And the chair itself.

If any one needs a filling just holler old JC and I'll sort it out for you :DD

Jokes aside, it's definitely much more cheerful and less funeral than the last one.

It looks better in the flesh. Sadly anything with chrome on looks pretty tacky in photos. I still get this lovely leather smell when I walk in the room, kinda like that new trainers smell.

Also. It has helped me kick a 15 year habit. I tried hippy squatting on it (legs crossed underneath me) but it isn't wide enough for my fat ass. So I have had no choice but to adjust my posture to a proper one.

Hey fat ass !

I'm not fat I'm big boned

Well you have a huge bone in your ass.

Myp. TBH man I'm seriously considering painting the Alienware white. I've always been a bit old fashioned with PCs but the pearl white (and hard to get) Alienware was gorgeous. It would also come with the added bonus of not looking terribly dusty five seconds after I have cleaned it.

Also PS3s and black, shiny laptops.

We were probably dragging your unconcious body back from the pub.

I've requested a new chair at work, as I suspect that the one I'm using now is a contributing factor to my back pain.

If I get to pick one... what should I get. The pain is in my lower back, right at the base of the spine.

You need something orthopaedic. Decent supportive chairs start at about £300 and go up from there. They should also be properly set up by an ergonomics expert.

See if you can get the company to spring for one of these
