Stock Tuning/Parts Only option will be switched on.

It means you can waste money buying the extra parts or tweaking your setup but it won't matter one jot as the car will be as it was when you bought it.

ah right, I was oping I didnt have to mess about ruining my car by tuning it up (down).

Nah, the game will do that for you. For example, when we'd race our cars some folks only had tuned versions, and that option makes them run as if they're stock.

Forgot it was tonight but luckily I was feeling a little bored this affy and made a start on my car. I really struggled with trying to copy right to left side and in the end I just did it manually...what a pain in the arse. But anyway, the green machine is ready.

I actually want to watch this, but not owning the game will cause some technical issues with that I expect

Sorry for the short notice but I'm going to have to drop out. Struggling time wise today.

Still don't have a car and I'm unbelievably broken from last night.

Well then. Eight signed up, four left, two took their place, two more didn't show up. So four racers altogether: myself, Ramsea, Loopdreams and Runcle. Suffice it to say, I don't think this will get to the second meeting next week.

We discovered that Benchmark doesn't have a pit lane. No problem, I thought, I'll just turn the damage off so any crashes won't matter as much, and fuel and tire wear will be off. Ramsea alas had forgotten to redeem his code or had some problem with the code, and after I was convinced it was in fact on the second disc etc etc etc.

So we did 25 laps of Sunset instead. 25 laps meant, though, that the tires were only just becoming worn and that I still had a third of a tank of fuel left at the end. Runcle and Loopdreams both crashed, and discovered the pit lane only repairs mechanical issues, NOT aerodynamic issues from having smashed bodywork. Ramsea and I drove a clean race. Ramsea, coldly efficient, stayed right behind me for the whole thing until drafting and overtaking me on the inside (Cole) on that dangerous last bend, and beating me by less than a car length. Good stuff!

We then had a few runs around in other cars on other tracks, etc etc. Here are some pics of the race, and of a nice big crash we had afterwards:

Looks like fun. I'm back now and am going to set my car up for next week.

No problem, but it's looking pretty unlikely the rest of this will go ahead.

I really hope we can have some more stock races in the future...a full race would be ace, may be longer* so we have to pit. Even with only 4 of us I still had a good time.

Besides, it would be a shame not to use our custom cars again, particularly loopy who I think used the arcade car instead of his own from garage.

*It would be interesting if you could change the fuel capacity to half or a quarter.

It would be a shame if you didn't carry on with this. Hopefully I'll be able to scrape enough cash to buy a stock car for next week and paint it up.

Yeah, I know. You can imagine me being a bit staggered that out of ten people who originally expressed interest, four actually turned up. I'm sure there's some truism or statistic or something to say that's a good ratio, but I'm also sure there's one for 'know when to quit'. I also hadn't been aware Top Gear started again last night.

Like I said, this was an experiment and it's one that hasn't turned out as well as I thought. After all, we've discovered:
-Benchmark has no pit lane
-Tire wear and fuel consumption is now part of the 'damage' setting, so you can't have one without the other.
-Crashing is still race-ending with damage on, as with fucked bodywork you'll have a lower top speed even after having the mechanical parts repaired.
-herding cats

I think Ramsea is right, I must have just picked the first stock car I saw, not realising that I was just looking through the arcade cars.

It took me until now to get this, I still think I live in Manchester

When I joined the lobby I automatically had a Dodge Stock car which wouldve been an arcade one since I didnt have one in my garage, I was using the Ford.

And that last corner did nearly catch me out as you took a different line than you did for the rest so I had to try to go around the outside but realised that wouldnt work so dived to the very inside and somehow kept my speed up.

It might actually be fun to turn damage off and have a race with no rules. It will also be more fun for the slower guys out there as they will still be able to fuck it up for someone who is trying to lap them.
