Moral Dilemma

Right, at my workplace we have a thing called 'Green Travel'. If you commute by public transport, bicycle or car share, you can claim points at a machine in reception (10 points a day, which equates to 50p). When you've built up enough points for something you want, you can request vouchers that can be used in most shops.

Anyway, today I saw someone arrive on a motorbike (on his own) and use the machine after I'd used it. I'm not sure what to do, because on one hand it's fraud and abusing a system set up to encourage people to leave their cars and bikes at home, but on the other hand I don't want to feel like a dirty dobber. I'm a bit pissed off because I work hard at cycling every day and feel like I earn my free game every three months. I'd feel guilty if I reported it, though.

What should I do?

I'd ignore it.

Maybe he forgot to get his points when he came in the other day, or it was someone else's card that he was stamping for them whist they were doing something else. Little beans to make an enemy over I would have thought.

I'd say using a motorbike is possibly more 'green' than a car, so some points might be fair.

Also, are you sure that he isn't collecting something like half points for coming on a bike instead of a car, or somesuch thing? Or he may genuinely think that a motorbike is green.

On the other hand, he is completely ruining the point of the scheme, so I would be tempted to do something.

I suspect it's something to do with freeing up parking spaces here - they are at a premium.

I think the general encouragement of motorbikes is that they don't tend to add to congestion. Pollution-wise they're typically far worse than an average car.

Oh, and your company will like them as statistically it's good news for the pension scheme.

I used to use the Thames Ferry, when I had to work in London for 3 months.. it was a great way to get from the Hotel (Hilton Docklands) to London Bridge ( I think)

Nah, I think a tiny portion of people taking the piss is normal, and understood as inevitable and a small price to pay for things like that.
