Right, at my workplace we have a thing called 'Green Travel'. If you commute by public transport, bicycle or car share, you can claim points at a machine in reception (10 points a day, which equates to 50p). When you've built up enough points for something you want, you can request vouchers that can be used in most shops.

Anyway, today I saw someone arrive on a motorbike (on his own) and use the machine after I'd used it. I'm not sure what to do, because on one hand it's fraud and abusing a system set up to encourage people to leave their cars and bikes at home, but on the other hand I don't want to feel like a dirty dobber. I'm a bit pissed off because I work hard at cycling every day and feel like I earn my free game every three months. I'd feel guilty if I reported it, though.

What should I do?

Report him, safe in the knowledge that the slimy cunt would almost certainly do the same to you.

I'd ignore it.

Maybe he forgot to get his points when he came in the other day, or it was someone else's card that he was stamping for them whist they were doing something else. Little beans to make an enemy over I would have thought.

Set up a blog site where you impotently rage about things. Put it up there.

I'd say using a motorbike is possibly more 'green' than a car, so some points might be fair.

Also, remember what happens when you confront people. They'll chase you in a lorry and shout at you.

Also, are you sure that he isn't collecting something like half points for coming on a bike instead of a car, or somesuch thing? Or he may genuinely think that a motorbike is green.

On the other hand, he is completely ruining the point of the scheme, so I would be tempted to do something.

Edit, just seen your post.

Yay - although hopefully less points that the human powered two wheeled variety. If you had left it you may have frothed inside until you exploded one day and attacked the Zovirax woman out of motorcycle hate. Asking about it was a good thing.

I suspect it's something to do with freeing up parking spaces here - they are at a premium.

I think the general encouragement of motorbikes is that they don't tend to add to congestion. Pollution-wise they're typically far worse than an average car.

Oh, and your company will like them as statistically it's good news for the pension scheme.

I used to use the Thames Ferry, when I had to work in London for 3 months.. it was a great way to get from the Hotel (Hilton Docklands) to London Bridge ( I think)

Well, I know that, but the small bit of amusement it caused me in my mind to imagine a self employed home worker awarding himself points for not using the car to get to work it was worth it, and I thought I'd share.

If it would encourage Grim... to stop using his chauffeur to take him from the bedroom to the office in the west wing, I think he deserves those points.

Yes, but you're the biker from Raising Arizona, riding to work at full throttle while shooting lizards and grenading bunnies.

eheh, that's definitely a british thing to do, trusting people to do that. Obviously that wouldn't work here (it seems it doesn't work there either, to be fair)

Nah, I think a tiny portion of people taking the piss is normal, and understood as inevitable and a small price to pay for things like that.

Yes, let's kill him, that'll teach him. He's probably in the BNP and doesn't have a TV licence either. And I bet he was speeding on the way in, too, being a biker and all.

Sir:

My friend Harry and I are diabolists, and seven years ago we succeeded in summoning the devil to our place of black worship, which at the time was my garage. Our purpose in calling Satan was the usual one, and, gesturing to a vision which showed me steeped in wealth and power, the devil asked what I was prepared to give for this to come true. Naturally, I replied, "My soul," to which Satan said, "Right," and we exchanged the necessary pledges. Satan then turned to Harry and, offering him the same vision of wealth and power, asked what he was prepared to give in return. Harry said, "A big hug," to which Satan replied, "Right," and they too exchanged pledges.

Over the last seven years, Harry and I have led our separate, immensely fulfilling lives and we've greatly enjoyed our power and wealth. At midnight tonight Satan comes to take my soul, while all Harry has to do is to give him a big hug. My point is, think carefully before you make a deal with the devil. Thanks for listening.
