Done a search but cant find what I am looking for.

Now, which provider is it that actually is unlimited and wont cap day time usage?
I work from home now, and having slow internet in the day is a chore.

do I need a business account? or can a standard home package with no limits work? I remember reading somewhere may have been here about TRUE unlimited accounts. Anyone got any information?

also, how does one go about migrating? and should I be paying any canccellations?
my previous broadband was for 12 months contract (initial period) which I continued and is due to run out july 2009. Am I liable if I switch now?

Lastly, how long will I be "down" for without broadband?

Thanks

Sky (top level) isn't capped.

Sky Max. You can't get it unless you have Sky TV, though (at the moment, anyway).

If you can't get on SKY.

Entanet do unlimited packages, for both business and home.

O2/Be do have a fair usage policy so technically aren't as really unlimited as Sky Max, but have almost never gone so far as to tell someone to back off and are probably less contended.

O2's customer service is actually very good. Not perfect by any means, but very good, especially for the cheapness. If you're not an O2 Mobile customer and so aren't eligible for the £5/mo discount, Be might be a better bet because they operate a 3 month contract rather than 12. They have a Business package, the details of which I don't know but are on the website.

You ring your ISP's support line (or perhaps follow the online procedure that some do, for example Namesco) and ask for a MAC. Be prepared to put up with bullshit attempts to dissuade and/or confuse you - especially if it's Virgin, as a colleague found out; 3 weeks it took to make them shut the fuck up and provide the MAC. Which is just wrong, the rules say they have 14 days (I think) to provide one. When you have your MAC, place your (possibly distinct migration) order with the new ISP providing it where asked. Try to time it so the migration happens towards the end of your payment period because the outgoing ISP will usually be petty and not refund the part period you aren't receiving the service.

Do you mean that you've gone past the initial 12 month period? If so, there should be no cancellation fee - it should be clearly stated in your T&Cs. I didn't think any ISP required extended periods after the opening one, they usually swap onto a rolling monthly deal. This stuff's all ISP-specific, unfortunately, although OfCom did advise them to start getting their shit together.

O2 say 6-10 working days if all you're doing is migrating (the problems I had were in moving house, and at least half down to BT). When I migrated from Namesco to O2, it actually took about 4 working days from order confirmation.

If you're using it for work, can you not get a business package and get your employer to pay for it?

Entanet is rolling monthly so not fixed into a 12 month contract, I did not have any down time at all when I changed ISP.

If you want details http://www.vivaciti.net/

O2's pretty good, and is essentially exactly the same service, just with minor speed and contractual tweaks. I like it, although my router seems to be a bit flaky. Possibly related to a flaky landline (newly installed in November, thanks Openreach). The speed never really fluctuates, I can get >1MB/sec download out of my 16mbps line (which never syncs above 14.8, because of the line) any time of the day. I know a few other people who've migrated and are more than happy.

Let me guess, you have to claim it back through expenses?

Well im not 100% sure how it works, I think I can only claim some of it back, so obviosly I dont want to be paying out mega bucks for a service.

Right now its £17.xx for capped in the daytime 8mb which im not too happy with

Maybe I will check out O2 in more detail, as my Blackberry is with O2 so I may get a discount

You should be able to; the T&Cs don't even dictate that the mobile has to be registered at the same address, just that each mobile may only be associated with a single broadband connection.

I should be testing this soon by linking Charl's mobile to her parents address, if I can convince them to migrate (it's a better package for less than she's paying now, even without the discount, I don't see why it's an issue).
