When I click on that, it gives a NSFW warning at the top. Shouldn't we do the same?

That's the title of the guy's column. It's not NSFW at all.

Orlowski is a massive right wing twunt. It's not for nothing that his articles on the Reg have no comments section.

He's also ugly as sin. Not that that's relevant.

Why do you need 1000 words to say "Cock off, fagballs"?

Heh. The article sort of has a good point until it starts getting snotty on behalf of PR people.

While Orlowski is clearly a knob, Carr has massively missed the point of what he was saying. It was not a rant against twitter. It was a rant at those who seem to believe that somehow a technology product allowing broad dissemination of bitesized information can magically transform the idea of charitable giving. Which, of course, it can't. Using twitter doesn't automagically turn someone into an altruist, just like creating a Facebook group to stop knife crime doesn't magically save our kiddies from stabby stabby death.

Yes, but nobody had suggested that it did. Orlowski's piece was just yet another bitter whinge against the new, belittling a charitable event.

True, that seems somewhat petty and nasty.
On the other hand, Carr's article is equally unforgivable for the smugness and righteous indignation of his "how dare you fogeys criticise, it's all for charidee" tone. The first two paragraphs clearly hit a raw nerve, and I think that's what Carr's rant is really a response too. Orlowski does have a point there.

Eugh. That last quote is dripping with guardian-article-commenter groupthink. "We, the guardian commenters, will deign to view your response and will provide our collective opinion. You may go".

Could do with you lot going onto the Guardian comments and asking them to publish my rebuttal...

This could be fun.

Bah, as soon as the next thing comes along everyone will forget about Twitter and move on. Just like all those companies and political parties with HQs in Second Life that no one cares about any more.

And to be fair on Orowolorlsoski, his point does seem to be that the media was writing about the event purely because it was on Twitter, rather than any other reason. $250k for charity is fantastic, but if they got that amount by people sending them cheques after getting an appeal in the post, no one would even bat an eye.

Not from the media's point of view, no. It wouldn't exactly be newsworthy.

I love the idea of many many Guardian readers fruitlessly trying to fathom out the actual meaning behind Mali's comment.

This *may* start to look like an, ahem, attack arranged on a forum full of old-school early adopters? :DD

I wonder what the Google results for Craster turn up. Expect Cann's next article to be about this lair of badger touching bastards he's discovered.

I will admit to kicking it old school, but only in respect of cardigans and hats. And I certainly wasn't an early adopter. I waited until all of the wrinkles had been ironed out first.

Luckily, the place called Craster muddies my googling somewhat.
