An odd one this week - not only is it Wednesday, but I'm going to run this one until midday Tuesday to give people a chance of getting to their XBoxen.
Basically, do the Chapter 1 (not the prologue) speed run as fast as you can. Online records are down at the moment, so a nice photo of the screen will be handy.

5:38:09 to beat... I've got at least 20 seconds of mistakes to shave off that, too, but my fingers are proving too spacky tonight.

Ah the speed run of chapter 1 - I always forget about these and focus on the time trials.

I'm in on this hard.

There's more skill in the speed runs, I find, plus this one is pretty simple to remember the route to - there are only four or five 'tricky' bits to get your time down.

Just checked my best time. 5:55.

Then I thought I would sneak in a quick attempt. 7:04! I've got rusty quick.

I love this game.

How much does this sell for at the moment? In terms of cheapest option, not RRP = 44.99!

£17.73 at The Hut. That's probably about the right price for it, considering how slim it is.

I'm terrible with money, but that seems like a bargain to me.

I'm gonna get me one!

It's not that slim if you like the races (which are the best bit, IMO). £18 is a good price.

FTF-me

Ah, screw it, given the thousands of pounds it'll all cost, what's another 18 quid?

:D

I would go as far as to say it is a damn far distance from slim. If you realise it's a racing game and not a FPS.

I've easily dumped 30 hours into it so far.

You two seem to be the exception rather than the rule, though. Most people I've spoken to have played the story through for 5-6 hours and haven't felt the inclination to go back and do the time trials or races.

Good luck, buddy (although you are at a disadvantage to those of us that have played it a lot). You have to complete level 1 before you can speedrun it.

How do I do a speed run? I finished chapter one in story, then went to "play chapter", where it showed a blank speed run time, selected chapter one, checkpoint A, ran through the whole level, but didn't get a time.

On the main menu, go right once to 'races', then choose chapter one. A speed run is the whole level, with bad guys and everything.

I only have Time Trials and Leaderboards on that menu. Maybe it unlocks after completing the whole game? In which case, I won't be able to get in a time in for this challenge.

That's a shame :(
I'll do another Mirrors Edge challenge soon though, as I've been loving this one.

This easily took over 50 tries, but I got there:

There are two places I know I can go faster, but that's me for now.

I couldn't beat my previous best of 5:55. 8) Paying lots of L4D has hurt my ME skills. Which is weird.

Once the DLC comes out I'm going to have to build them up again because I love this game. Saying that I still prefer the Time Trials over the speed runs because I find it hard to maintain being 'on form' for more than 3 minutes or so.

Here is what I did to get that time:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Jump onto the aircon units then onto the corner of the building. Drop (don't jump) off, then over the left-hand edge of the pipe and jump from the plank. Get onto the smaller building in front of you, then run off it's right-hand side and hit X to slow the game down. As soon as you land on the ventshaft, hit jump to jump over the fence, then jump onto the corner of the high building, then jump down onto the big building in front. Run through the door at an angle (as you can't turn fast enough if you go through it straight) and round into the lift (~45secs). Cut scene. Go around and jump over the railing, keep running round and vault the display box, then wallrun close to the next one (the wall on the right) and look at the box so you land on it. Run up the wall and spring off over the railing behind. Wallrun jump the left wall to get onto the top level walkway, smash the window, run to the end of the room and wallrun over to the plant pot. Jump down, then wallrun jump over the photograph to grab hold of the walkway (this can be tricky to get right - hit X to slow things down if it helps), then hop up into the vents. Go through the vents, through the door and jump straight away. Slide down and jump, drop off the building (don't jump), then drop right down off that building (ignore the smaller one) and run around the pipes. Drop off onto the next building, hop over the obstacles, then jump off the right-hand side of the edge, heading to the right so you land on the metal scaffold and not on the crash-pad. Hop over the fence and go around the corner. Jump onto the box, then wallrun-turn-jump onto the bar, swing onto the top of the steps. Wallrun-turn-jump on the left, then wallrun the gap, then wallrun-turn-jump again, over the pipes, wallrun-jump off the aircon thing to get over the fence, and then jump slightly to the right from the plank so you land on the garden (don't roll). Through the door, head straight through the bad guys and wallrun-jump them at the last minute into the lift. It takes two minutes to get to the end from here. Come out of the lift, run around and hop over the banister (don't roll) and through the door. Drop off and wallrun-jump to the next door. Head around, through the door, and jump over the edge and across the bridge. Keep going through the subway in as straight lines as possible, turning as you slide under the door to the red area. You can run under the second door if you're quick. Once out, head just to the left of the left-hand bad guy, jump up the steps, then up onto the ledge to the left of the orange bit. Hop up the bench at the top, jump up above the garage door, up the ladder, quick-turn at the top, run until about 1 second after the rope turns red then jump for it. Jump over the final railing and check your time...

Note that you never have to use any stairs, and always duck after you jump unless you are climbing up stuff!

I didn't try, but my existing time was about 5:45 I think, and far from a clean run (I stopped when I got the ach. rather than when I was satisfied with a run. There's one I've lost at least 1.5 minutes due to mistakes)

Like Sir Dr Lave, I prefer the time trials due mainly to shorterness and lackofpeopleshootingatmeness.
