I was looking for a particular image to make an amusing comparison that I'd noticed, but then I found that someone had already done it. haha.

I swear at one point the BBC's overlaid counter graphic was saying Obama 106, McCain 43 whilst ITV's was saying Obama 43, McCain 106 - as the presenter gestured at it and explained what it was.

It was, mate of mine pointed it out.

Sadly, it looks like the Californians are going to vote "yes" on Proposition 8, making gay marriage illegal again. Idiots.

Just as well! Otherwise those ghastly fags getting married would cause all of the god-sanctioned heterosexual marriages to spontaneously annul themselves.

The whole "proposition" thing really is completely nuts. Here's a sample, try not to LOL:

Quote:
California Proposition 8 to ban gay marriage (84%):
For: 4,605,065 - 51.8%
Against: 4,293,068 - 48.2%

Colorado Proposition 46 to end affirmative action (77%)
For: 886,544 – 49%
Against: 911,218 – 51%

Colorado Proposition 47 to make Colorado a right-to-work state(80%)
For: 863,812 - 44%
Against: 1,079,591 - 55%

Colorado Proposition 48 to define a zygote as a person, SRSLY WTF?
For: 494,058 – 27%
Against: 1,353,078 – 73%

Florida Amendment 2 more strongly banning gay marriage (99%)
For: 4,657,031 – 62%
Against: 2,848,490 - 38%

Or, more prosaically, "voluntary descent from one's rank or dignity in intercourse with an inferior."

On the beeb coverage they were interviewing someone in a city, looked like they were radio presenters, and they suggested that Obama supported infanticide, is that what some Americans call abortion or is there something I missed?

The debate is typified by this sort of thing. It's much easier to win support to stop baby-killers than it is to have an informed debate about the ethics of the issue.

Yes, that's what some Americans call abortion.
Obama = a baby killer, because he's presumably not defining a zygote as a person.
I'm just amazed and thankful that he won.

That reads like text speak. LOL.

Seriously though... more strongly banning something?

Are they going to arrest gay people who consider marriage? Is the law going to say that it is really prohibited?

America... I thought you were getting better!

As an aside I think that any united 'country' that doesn't even have consistent laws across the whole of it is always going to be shite.

The four parts of the United Kingdom go their own ways on certain matters too.

But I'm a big fan of federalism and of individual states doing their own thing.

The UK is shite, we're fucking tiny in comparisson and we can't keep our shit straight across 3 little countries (NI doesn't count), and each of those wants independance. Best not to think about it too much, might get angry and go back to plotting the destruction of everything.

yeah but we have over 1000 years of generally twattery to each other to consider. The americans are generally immigrant families who hated the european monarchy that they ran away from. common ground and all that

Worrying news!
Part of the company I work for does qualitative research (which means (broadly) talking face to face to people in depth) and lately they've been talking to students about the government. When discussing the next UK elections, the students are clearly confused about the election process, with something like 40% of them thinking that our election process was the same as the American process, and a small number (around 5%) thinking that we've just about to fucking have an election (or had one, by now).
WTF?

Apparently on the Scott Mills show yesterday morning quite a few young British people seemed to think they had a vote in the US election.

Remember everyone, most people are stupid and will simply do as they are told. I work in a University and I've seen student when presented with 'push' door with a really big, colourful sign at eye level saying 'push', stand and forlornly pull at a door for a good 20 seconds.

Now... fetch me a cup of tea.

honestly, it's a forum full of loons, and if question anything that is said, it's like poking a hungry bear with a sharp stick.

This explains why I recently read a book set in 1890 that implied Cornwall was to some extent considered its own country seperate to England. How odd.

The fucking welsh who insist on translating EVERYTHING into Welsh on all signs despite the fact it's entirely fucking pointless because while 100% of people speak English, only about 18% of people *can* speak Welsh, and even less of those choose to. All in the name of preserving a dying, pointless language and a 'culture' that hasn't existed in a zillion years. Bloody welsh. Gaywood is the worst.
