I'm no fan of Cavey's stance on many political issues but goading folks when they're not around is just plain bad form IMO.

Maybe he's been quiet lately because he's mad busy at work, or maybe he's got stuff going on with his family, or any other entirely valid reason that means he's got more important things to do than argue on BEEX about Brexit or anything else.

Or maybe he just can't be arsed at the moment, and that's fine too. I feel that way sometimes as well.

Prodding people with a stick isn't exactly a great debating tactic, especially when you have no idea why they're not sat at the table at any particular moment in time.

The whole 50 billion euros thing wouldn't have been an issue had the government been open and honest about likely costs sooner. Instead we had Mr Johnson talking about whistling.

I also don't care much for talk of 'the other side'. Surely we'd be better off seeing it as a collaborative project and admitting that both sides have interests and possibilities where we might both benefit, rather than a them v us zero-sum game?

Presumably because the markets fear a cliff edge, so every bit of news that nudges us closer to a deal is good news.

Huh, if that proves anything it's how much quicker the new version of Firefox is (in this specific application at least). I played this initially at home on the new souped-up Firefox and it was fine but here at work on the shitty old ESR version it's awful.

I'm a long way from being an expert here, but I really don't see how any deal on the Irish border can simultaneously be acceptable to the Republic, the press / Hard Brexitish MPs, and the DUP. Someone is going get pissed off, which will either mean talks stalling, or there being a pretty good chance of the government collapsing.

Very much this. It's even more frustrating that all this damage is being done to keep the Tory party together and Mrs May in power, rather than attempt to find a broad consensus. I know the Tories tend to delude themselves into thinking that what is good for the party is good for the country, but by pressing for the hardest Brexit possible so she can keep the right-wing obsessives on side, she's caused immense damage.
