WW&TVC-TO! (pronounced Wah-Wand-Tuvok-Toe!)

How about a general thread about Wii Ware and Virtual Console? I say this because thanks to the idiotic decision to not bother with demos it's hard to get an impression about Wii DLC before putting money down. Which is churlish nintendo. Churlish.

So it would be nice to have a place to collect peoples impressions if they do take the risk on a game.

I say this because according to Eurogamer MaBoShi: The Three Shape Arcade is really super.

Image

Saying:

Quote:
It's always nice to be surprised (unless the surprise involves a clown shining a torch in your face in the middle of the night) and MaBoShi is a very surprising game. It's a quiet, unassuming little thing, sitting there on the Wii Shop shelf and doing very little to alert you to the evil genius lurking behind its obscure title.

Quote:
That's just the basics, but already you've got a fantastic trio of physics-based arcade puzzle games. MaBoShi goes one further though. You play your chosen game in one of three parallel windows. After a short time, AI players will start playing in the other windows - or human players can join in and do the same. Here's where it crosses over into the realms of genius: although the playfields are separate, they can affect each other. Swing the Stick off the edge of its box, and it can destroy blocks in the Square game or wallop the Ball. Destroyed enemies from Ball will arc across the three boards, as will burning blocks from Square.

Quote:
Judged purely on its ideas and gameplay, MaBoShi comes highly recommended to anyone with a taste for Japan's oddball puzzle games. And yet there's still more to unearth through dedicated play, including replays of your best runs that you can send to your Wii Friends, as well as the ability to download a smaller version of the game to your DS - completely free. And all this for just 800 Points. Such thought and generosity puts most of the WiiWare line-up to shame.

Getting 9/10 and coming in at 800 points (£5.60) - so thats really quite tempting. I may pick it up.

Sounds interesting. Good to see something decent on Wiiware too - reading the mini-reviews in NGamer is pretty depressing.

Is there any way to save the DS download version of MaBoShi?

I think it only lasts for as long as your machine is on. So you would just have to keep your machine asleep. I wonder if them damn pirates could turn it into one of those .nds files...

I've got 900 free points at the minute, so I think I'm going to pick this or strong bad up...

I think I have 800 point waiting to be spent, this sounds like a great thing to spend them on. Thanks!

Multiplayer:

I like the fact it comes with a DS version you can download:

I think I'm going to take a chance on this.

Bomberman Blast is out today (1000 points). Anyone else getting/got this? Unless there is something terribly game breaking in it I reckon I will get this over the weekend. I haven't played Bomberman in years and hopefully it has decent online play and rankings.

Although I need to order some wii points :(

I'm sure we already had a VC RMD thread, but I'm buggered if I can find it.
Maybe it was on WoS.

Gah! Don't order wii points from Tesco's at 11.97 if you want them soon. 3-5 Days my arse. They emailed me a dispatch of the 22nd.

Is there anywhere else that beats or come close to Tesco's price?

I've got 700 Wii points I can't be bothered to use. Anyone want to PayPal me some money for them?

EDIT: As unused codes, obviously.
OCT 2009 EDIT: this still stands.

Okay, a proper update on Castlevania Rebirth! And by Koji Igarashi's lovely hat, it's looking rather splendid!

I know it's an iffy scan, but you can still make out a few scenes in the top right, and they certainly seem to be more detailed and vivid than I was expecting. Ace!

Edit: now in Big-O-Vision.

Wow, this thread hasn't seen much action has it?

Anyway, The all NEW Excite Bike snuck onto the Virtual Console the other day. At 1000 points, it's pretty expensive (I think) but I downloaded it anyway.

It's pretty simple but good fun. It lends somewhat from Excite Truck (Or did Excite Truck lend from this?) with the control method as it's all about tilting the controller to land your jumps perfectly to get the best times.

I only had chance to have a quick blast on it but I like it. I've always been a fan of Excite Bike, even the N64 version, so it's a must have from me!

At 500 points, Tomena Sanner is a bit of a must. Bit Trip Void, out later this month, looks very promising, too.

The Wii is awesome. Don't listen to internet spastics who try to tell you otherwise.

On the subject of WiiWare, Bit Trip Beat is excellent fun also. Bit Trip Void looks splendid too.

I'm sure it was but I struggled with it.. I don't know why but there was something about the controls that I struggled to get on with. I still played it loads though.

Feels like they filled it with a bunch of fluff.

Excitebots made me sad. It's like the developers completely fluked out with Excite Truck, because the sequel showed that they had no idea what it was that made the first game so great.

Oh, I'm of a different opinion. ExciteBots has everything the first one has, but with additional powerups, a new gesture and the all-important multi-player online.

I've just checked and ExciteBots actually has higher scores than ExciteTruck pretty much everywhere. I love them both, though.

I'd avoided ExciteBots because I thought that the general consensus was that it was a load of poo. Was I wrong?

I'd say yes, backed up by Metacritic.

YMMV, of course :)

ExciteBots hasn't been released in Europe, has it? I really, really want to play it. Will an import run fine, or do I need to install ILLEGAL WAREZ and/or hack my wy Wii with, erm, a hacksaw or something?

it works fine, but you need freeloader or another solution

the game is never going to be released in Europe, sadly

Doesn't surprise me, compared to the woo, even the old psn store seemed well created.

Plus since they stole everyone's stars, none would want to buy anything anyway.
