Why would you want a manual 'box in a *huge* 4x4 diesel pickup truck with mountains of big-turbo-diesel torque? I ain't going to be heel and toeing that thing.

Stick it in D and off you go. :)

I looked at some 4x4 websites cos I didn't know the answer to this, and came across the Range Rover Sentinel. Holy Cow, a bullet proof Range Rover - they're really targeting the drug dealer and 3rd world dictator celebrity market.

We found that out on the LR drive day Mrs C and I did.
Just checked - yup, you can't even order an Amarok with anything less than a 3-litre diesel engine, as mated to an 8-speed auto and permanently engaged four wheel drive. (The 2 litre version has been binned off)

For a "Chuck stuff in the back and not care if you back it into a tree" car, the Hilux is nearly perfect.

That said, I'd take a Ford Ranger.

Smacking it into a tree would probably improve it... I'm just not into Jap stuff.

As for the Ranger, I like them too, but the engine is pretty pants/inefficient (last I checked the spec)
I am a sucker for German design, engineering and build quality. :)

We could fit a smoker to that bad boy in an afternoon, man.

Add in a scoop and you could drive it around if the temps were too low!
