Seriously though, this is the dog's bollocks.

Started watching some two weeks ago, I never realised you could download them fom iPlayer (Demonoid).

First impressions - nice mini series, like to see where they go with it, good solid reimagining, no weaks bits.

Then I got into the series, bloody hell! A Who and buffy beater. Every episode the same shaky cam claustro-paranoid fourty minutes of tense fun. mercifully it works, with a cast who cover all the bases. Adama is MAGNIFICENT, as are certain camera angles on Starbuck, Eight, Six, Roslin (Oh, I so would), Cally, Dee, Three (fit Xena how?!?!?!?), Racetrack and the rest - especially the ginger from the Caprica militia in season two. Oh yeah -

I AM ONLY ON SEASON TWO EPISODE EIGHTEEN - TEMPER SPOILERS ACCORDINGLY, PEOPLE. SO SAY WE ALL.

I love that I'm getting to a stage where things are starting to be turned on their heads a little, and assumptions I had made are being challenged. I had a bandwidth drought halfway through season two, where you-know-what shows up, and it took me a tortuous evening of torrent monitoring and racing through three episodes I was expecting to be two before I could sleep.

My own speculation for the future, having watched to S02Ep18...

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Cylons got their monotheism from Earth, or some related thing, and the were there before the assault on the colonies, let alone Galactica's inevitable season four arrival.

Please don't tell me if I am right, I want to wait and see.

Amazing telly though, the scripts are incredible at times and ok at worst, never a dull episode though aand the arcs are contained well within each episode and season, despite the whole thing being a generally repetetive plod form one epidode to the next. Which is never a problem. I love this show. Is the last ten of season four really the end?

I am up to 3x12 or so now. Agree that the show is fantastic in general. The much-discussed criticism of series 3 -- that is has a lot more standalone episodes and less of a continuous story arc -- hasn't bothered me, probably because I am working from the DVDs and hence watching them as fast as I can. Once I finish off my s3 DVDs I have HD rips of S4 to crack through, then a long wait until January.

The stunt the Galactica pulls in 3x03 (I think that's the one... if you've seen it, you know what I mean) is incredible.

I stood up bolt upright for that moment and grinned stupidly.

I envy your fresh experience of stuff coming up, Goatboy, I really do. There are even bigger questions coming up! So far in Galactica TV episode history, there's only been two duff episodes, one really bad that was a season three standalone and one in season two somewhere. And that's it. The season three standalone episodes are at least pretty good, it's just that everything else is so ace that shows them up.

My only complaints are about certain character directions, but bitching when Galactica achieves so much seems petty somehow.

The Wire's still the best TV show, though. :)

I watched it on the Cardiff Central -> Cathays train, which was awkward, as I came close to soiling myself.

I've one more of season two to go -and I'am about to skin up and watch that now.

Is the duff season two episode the reality TV one? If so, I found it a nice relief, unexpected, not at all fourth-wall breaking like, say, "Once More, With Feeling" in the Buffyverse. A good grounding episode which reminds us who we are rooting for, just s the whole universe gets complicated.

Also, onto the finale - I note Dean Stockwell is aboard. This cannot possibly go well. Also Roslin is going to make Baltar look like Duncan-Smith. (I swear she's the Optimus Prime of this series, not Adama, though HE IS MIGHTY).

All in all I'm quite thrilled. I think if we are to have a Galactica thread, we need to have two levels of spoiler... a "Full Spoiler", where anything post mini series (guess what happens in that, n00bs!!111!!) can be freely discussed, plotwise and a "Goatboy Spoiler" where anything post season two is contained away form my eyes. I'll have S3 down and watched by the end of the next week or so, so it won't be for long. And when the whole thing is finished off, I'll pay top dollar for the box set. Because nothing makes me spend my money like getting pirated versions of good quality products.

Also, at the end of it all,

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Baltar, the cock

probably saves the day.

I would simply suggest all spoilers be behind spoiler tags with the episode number it spoliers shown outside the tag.

Nah, it's the Black Market one that I think's a bit rubbish. Glad you're enjoying though! It be fun hearing your newbie glee.

It's OK. Too po-faced, too much of Adama's rubbish son, too willing to sacrifice character development or even logic to serve the needs of the plot du jour. Admittedly I've only seen the first couple of seasons, so perhaps it suddenly sorts itself out and its strengths (great design, occasionally stunning space-battle sequences, Dr. Baltar) are enough that I'll get round to watching the rest, but I'm in no special hurry.

Best telly ever, though? In a universe with The Wire, Deadwood, the first three or four series of The West Wing and Firefly in it? Shome mishtake, shurely?

Top five is still best telly, even if it's fifth.

I enjoyed the ambiguity of Galactica (for which I'm fairly sure there's a large discussion topic already) but I do agree that it seems sometimes characters act for the benefit of the plot than themselves.

Or we could just use the BSG thread we already have for up-to-the minute stuff?
The ruling on there was always "no discussing (spoilered or not) anything that hadn't been on Sky".

Use the search, Luke.

And you can fuck Sky all you like, but we've all seen BSG up to series 4 and you haven't.

Up to half way through series 4.

For some reason next year's lot will be 'the other half of S4', rather than S5.

I've only watched to first couple of episodes, thought it was excellent, and not watched it again for some reason. I'll pick up on it again I'm sure.

It reminds me of the (I think) superb Space Above and Beyond, which may not have been as good as I remember it, but hey.

Yeah I remember S:AAB having a really shaky start, but then by the end I was really enjoying it, and was completely gutted it had ended. On a cliffhanger no less.

Ahead of its time that show.

Also: BSG is acebest, and I can't wait for the final 12 epsidoes.

I thought that was because of the writers strike? I love the fact that it choosing to end rather than just goin on and on until it is cancelled.

BSG will continue either in Jan or April.

The pilot for Caprica (which looks shit) is coming out first and they are working on the next TV movie which is apparently going to be quite Cylon-centric and is called 'The Plan'.

Oooh!

To be fair on Caprica, they could be bigging up the 'it's Dynasty and the OC, but in space!' angle to try and get a bigger audience. The actual show I reckon will be chock full of juicy conceptual sci-fi Phillip K Dick brilliance. Whilst somehow being the above too.

I agree with this sentiment. The writing and creative staff on BS:G have proven themselves over and over, so I'm certainly willing to give Caprica a go.

I saw up to the end of Season Two but for some reason never got round to Season 3. Goodness only know why too, since I utterly ruddy love BSG, I've had to avoid the other thread like the plague!

Fortunately, Lovefilm delivered disc 1 of the Season 3 boxset this morning and I appear to have an evening free tomorrow for much BSG viewage! :D

Why don't people ever seem to probe the Cylons much for info about Cylons... sich as the whole 'God's will' thing, why does no-one ever question a Cylon's faith and ask for how they know it is god's will, etc? Also Kara's sprog ftl, but after three episodes I'm beginning to want to know more about it. Damn these excellent writers

Fuck waiting four days like some sort of bloody fool, then paying extra on top of the £140 I've already paid to be allowed to own a TV I've paid for anyway, which in any case is going on something I will be buying the complete DVD box set of when it comes out, and can download for free in any case.

Fuck Sky in their stupid asses.

Grim...:

Yes, I thought it was great as a prequel, a stand-alone and a piece of sci-fi in general. For a Pilot, it can and hopefully will be improved on.

Liked the look, the characters and the tech. I want to spend many more hours in that world. Hopefully, given that we more or less know how it ends on a Mankind and Adama family scale, it can be every bit as much about the journey not the destination as BSG was.

Lave:

Look a couple of posts up and click the link for The Plan.

And very good it is too. Don't bother if you've not already watched the rest mind.

Also, quite sexeh, which is very kind of them given that it's possibly the last we'll see of that plot/character continuum.

Do I need to watch Caprica before this?

No, you need to watch all of Galactica before this though. Caprica works with or without the rest.

Cripes, ta for the link and the tip-off Govt. Yard!

Also, when does Caprica release on DVD here? Want to watch pronto. Lots of people seem to wear hats in it. I like hats.

Oh yeah, watched the end of BSG not too long ago. I actually really enjoyed it and thought it worked. I would have actually liked it a little more fleshed out even, really see the reactions of the common herd to it all. Can't believe there's idiots out there saying that the final episode was dragged out.
