My friend is after a cheapish laptop for her 12 year old daughter.

She has a budget of £200. Would a Chrome book be ok for her school work etc?

There were quite a few black Friday deals for cheap laptops around £150 for something that runs windows and I think would be fine - not sure you'd want to go down the chromebook route unless it was needed for something specific ?

** edit **

Ones like this : http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hp-stre ... hp-2333102

It is very basic but for £150 (or cheaper) it would do basic stuff

Link added - my suggestion is look at what they actually want to use it for

http://www.hotukdeals.com/search?action ... rds=laptop

Should be all the laptop deals posted to hotukdeals for the last few days - have a look on there for some price ideas - it may be worth trying to stretch to the lenovo's posted for around £230 / £240 as those are much more capable than the 'cheap' machines but it will just come down to what they need to use it for

I bought one of these HP Streams the other week and am very happy with it - but I only wanted something I could write on during my commute, using specific writing apps not available on Chrome.

Keys feel fine to type on, mousepad is a little spongy but you can tweak the sensitivity so it's not too grievous.

Fine for browsing the internet and writing on - but little else. Once windows and Scrivener are installed, I have around 2gb of hard drive space left. So not useful if they want to put photos and music on there.

Finally, in spite of moans I'd seen online, you can update to Windows 10 without any storage issues (or I did, at least). Not sure if MS patched it to fix the issue or what (essentially there wasn't enough hard drive space to update from 8 to 10)

Also, you might need to buy a sub for Office 365 (or 1 TB cloud storage, which gets you Office 365 free). So that's £60 odd quid a year. You might be able to fit a full version of Office on there, but I don't know, I haven't tried.

It's a dinky little thing and I like it.

:hat:

Be careful which USB-C cable you buy.

My Wife is having an issue were her Chromebook (It's an Acer C710 Q1VZC). She's had it some time, and it's showing it's age a bit, and yesterday it was having issue loading PDFs, she's had this before, and a full reboot had fixed it. On powering back up it she gets the chance to login, then about 30 seconds later the screen goes black, and the only thing she can do is hold in the power button for 10 seconds to power it off and try again.

I tried logging on as guest, and adding my google account to it and logging on with that, both of these options work fine, but still no joy on my wife's account. I've tried a quick google and can't really see anything.

I thought I would try and remove her account and re add it, but I don't have the option on hers (I guess there must be something about it being a master account or something - I do get the option to remove my account that I just added today).

Has anyone seen this before? Does anyone have any idea on how to stop it doing this, or if my idea of removing the account and re-adding it can be done? Or even if there are any logs that I can read that might shed some light?

Thanks
