Third-person MMO-lite cover shooter with a bit of a Day Z vibe to it; so a scramble for resources and survival, rather than a straight out shootymanfest. Game requires you to find food and water to stay alive, for example.

THOSE GRAPHICS

(Too big to embed, so linking instead. For pity's sake click the first one at least. It's eye-popping. I don't think it's a bullshot -- the same scene is in the video, if you want to check.)

The video is astonishing, miles ahead of anything I've seen to date. The game even looks quite good fun, too.

Holy shit.

Wow, that does indeed look very pretty and fun. I liked the idea of the guy with the tablet piloting a UAV to shoot baddies and highlight their position behind cover to the other players.

I've watched the gameplay video and it looked like the last Ghost Recon with "pop out of cover"-shooting(TM). Not fussed myself.

Starting to get quite excited about next gen games. Going from Xbox to 360 didn't seem like much of a leap really. It's been years now though so hopefully I'll be mind blown by some of the stuff they'll be able to do with these new consoles.

8) that looks awesome. I'm going to be so poor for ages with all these new games I've suddenly got excited about. Lucky I don't have anything big going on in my life I need to pay for ?:|

I'm just checking here - was anyone who watched that logged into a google account? Because the camera-character never said anything, and was referred to by my name. And well, I'm ever so slightly freaked out.

That looks incredible, if only it wasn't a cover based shooter, as i'm not really a fan. A Bezzie group on that would rock socks though.

You don't think it's maybe more likely that the character just has the same name as you?

Well thats the first thing I've seen that actually seems 'next gen' at least. Wowzers.

My internet's being flaky as fuck, so I've only watched about 12seconds before it conked out. I'll see what the game is like later. But bloody hell.

There are some links to download a 1080p mp4 version of that movie here: http://www.gamersyde.com/download_tom_c ... 84_en.html

It's noticeably sharper than the web streaming video for me. It's also eye-poppingly good.

Filthy, filthy tactics.

Last night, Grim... sent me a sneak peak of The Division bezzie gaming future.

Quote:
RG: I'm going to sneak around and take a look in that window.
Cras: 'kay. I'm near the back, I can see most of the place. You're clear to move now.
RG: I think there might be some other players already inside. Cras, can you do a magic X-ray thing.
Cras: On it. Okay, it's... Wait, what the fuck? Why did those cars just explode?!
Grim...: WHOO I GOT A REMOTE MINE UPGRADE!
I've played a shitload of Splinter Cell with Grim... and I can vouch for the accuracy of this scenario.

My overriding memory of Splinter Cell is still:-

Me: "OK, I'm taking the silenced MP5 so I can snipe from range. You might want to select something a little more close quarters but stealthy."
Grim...: "WOO I HAVE A SHOTGUN BANG BANG"

Only in our most recent sessions have I managed to convince Grim... to stop sprinting at the badmen and kicking down doors. Oddly enough, once you stop summoning the reinforcements, the game gets a lot easier :)

Playing L4D2 with him is much the same.

Curio: Where do we go now?
Bobby: We have to navigate this field full of witches.
Craster: Turn off your torch!

This reminds me a bit of when I was living with an old woman (see my origin story in the "list of jobs" thread for more details on that). Anyway her boyfriend came around as I started playing Homeworld 2 - he was just gaping at it. The last game he played was Pac Man and the last game he saw was some Spectrum game, so Homeworld blew his fucking mind!

Imagine a going into a coma during the eighties as a gaming fan and waking up to this sort of stuff.

Something similar happened to me a couple of years ago; one of the contractors that came to our team for a bit hadn't been keeping up with mobile technology (he was aware of the existence of iPhones etc but had never paid them much attention) so the last mobile game he was really aware of was bloody Snake. I showed him whatever the latest Asphalt game at the time was and he near shit himself inside-out.

I'm not super-unhappy about that, I must admit. I'd rather they did it well than rushed it out to get some cash.

We'll probably all be able to buy the Alpha version in a week anyway ;)

Yep, this will probably convince me to buy a PS4 if the gameplay is actually any good. It looks truly next gen.

Hopefully it's only multiplayer in the way that Dark Souls is where other people are mostly incidental rather than central to the experience. There's precious little point creating a realistic, detailed world with some gritty scenario only to have it inhabited by a load of American pre-teens bunny hopping around the place and screeching. It would ruin the immersion a bit.

I thought the whole point is that you constantly run the risk of PvP, like at the end of the trailer.

I guess we know precious little about it.

FTFY. According to the leaked rumours of a 2015 delay, every gameplay element is still in a state of flux.

Didn't I tell you already? Yes I played it. It was shit.

I couldn't be less fussed about this pile of boring bollocks. It didn't look amaze, it played like Ghost Recon (the most recent one; the shit one), it wasn't clever, it wasn't interesting, it was clunky, I shot a bunch of people and a bunch of numbers spilled out of them, so many numbers, then I chugged a LMG into a character at close range; an entire box later and they fell over; then someone unloaded a few magazines into me and I finally fell over; then I waited to respawn. A long time passed. Then I respawned but I could hardly be bothered to get back up. The. End.

You miss the point. No one should ever pre-order games. It's the practice that allows shoddy unfinished game to be released after shoddy unfinished game.

There's no point pre ordering games as I've never known a game to be that limited that you can't get hold of it on the day of release.

Certainly when I worked at Game, the amount of stock we received bore no relevance to the amount of pre orders we had.

If you're going to buy it on day 1, pre-ordering on Amazon is wise, as you get the lowest price between when you pre-order and when it's shipped. It doesn't charge you until it ships, either.
