The Rules for participating remain the same and can be found below:

The game is played on the PokerRoom software found at http://www.pokerroom.com/. There is a referrer programme for new registrations that give both of us an additional bonus (however unlikely it may be for you to clear it ) so if you wish to take advantage of that please PM me before you register. PokerRoom supports in-browser play that is compatible with PC, Mac and Linux so nobody should be excluded.

There is practically no limit to the amount of players that can participate so please feel free to join if you want to. The current buy-in is $1.20

You can find the private game by following the instructions below:

To find it:

1) Start the PokerRoom software or open the client in browser. REMEMBER: Your log-in is your email address not your user name.

2) Click on the Tournaments tab

3) Select 'Private'

4) Find the tournament called 'BETEO_Craig'. Ensure the 'Sit & Go' and not the Scheduled' option is selected in order to find it.

5) Enter the password 'beex' when prompted to register.

There are two house rules that are hopefully needless to state but are worth clarifying for everyone's enjoyment.

Rebuys: There are unlimited rebuys in the first hour. This means that you can rebuy when you get low on chips. Unless we all agree before hand please only rebuy when you do get low and don't just make four rebuys at once giving yourself a huge chip lead.
Clarification: (04/09/08) I'm talking, you know, around 400 chips or so? And not 1499?

Language: Witty banter is the spice of life. Calling someone a c**t for three hours is linguistic gruel.

Cricket: You can't talk about Cricket all of the time.

Session Two results are as follows:

CHAMPION Craig 68 pts
SECOND PLACE Evil Jacks 45 pts
THIRD PLACE BETEO_Joans 32 pts

Hmmm...I may even do this one, I bet I'll come last. I have poker nights at my place now and again and am okay at it :)

Although online is different than in person...I think I may need to brush up on my skills ^_^*

I'm interested.

Yup, count me in. Shin has a laptop too, so she could even do this at my place, which would be good as I'd have a visual tell as well as the online ones... not that it'd help me, mind. Might help me get through with fewer rebuys though ;)

Now then, this is a valid question and not random shite...ish.

Is there any way I can like go on and play as a practice round thing so I am ready for thursday? I'm used to real life poker so this may confuse me a little.

Online poker is easier because you don't end up playing 52-card pickup when it's your turn to deal.

Any sensible site should have a play money section where you can cock around and get a feel for the lay-outs and interface; I've never played on pokerroom before, but I imagine there is such a thing too. The play will be hideous, but that's not really the point... it's free and you'll be able to work out how to change the bet amounts, how much time you get per decision, what things about the settings annoy you and how to change them. So yeah, "Play Money" sections are your friend in this respect.

I will not be there this week, as I will be in Ireland.

One day I will return to become massive chip leader, and then splurge my chips away to finish second or third.

Further to my previous - Dr. A can't make it tonight. Something about 'social life'. He did however tell me that star bars are 2 for 70p at tesco at the moment. I feel like I've won already

If I get all of my work one today I might treat myself and stick some cash in my account.

I cant see why I wont be there. I see me and chris are drawing on the winner stakes, so I'll have to win tonight to take the lead.

I don't get this. Surely it is set up so that you can only re-buy when you have less than the starting stack? That is the standard set-up in my experience. If it isn't, but you don't want people re-buying in the way you described over, then you should have created the tournament differently... because if the option to re-buy multiple times regardless of stack size is available then asking people not to use it is like asking them to not to raise too much, or asking them to fold if you go all-in... if the game rules allow it and it is advantageous to a player to do it, then let them do it. If you don't like it, don't allow it.

Actually, I don't get that either. I was doing it the other day and won with no rebuys and stuff-it wouldn't let me do it on a tournament play game?

I don't think we should have rebuys actually as that's like...well...cheating really. Sorry Gaz...this means you'll be out in the first 10 minutes xxx

Rebuys are fine, as you're paying again for the privelege of staying in the same game. It was just a bit odd when people with 3000-odd chips were rebuying at the end of the period, that's all.

It pains me to say it, but Beano boy is right.

We've had no problem with rebuys yet so I don't see why anything should change.

Oh god, tonights going to consist of me whinining at Gaz's because I don't understand. I was very good the other day (playing until 1am) but I couldn't do rebuys on the tournaments so I was playing like a demon to keep my chips.

I think there's a limit (4000?) where you can't rebuy if you already have that many chips, so it does stop people from just spamming the rebuy button (except Comical).

You need to have less than 1500 chips to rebuy, moron :P

Oh right, so it is exactly as I would have expected; so the issue Craig mentioned can't be an issue at all.

See how confusing it is?!?!

And shin> most tournaments are Freezeouts, so no rebuying. You can only rebuy if it is expressly stated.

There is a very limited amount of options available when setting up a tournament. Regarding the rebuys you can have either no rebuys, one rebuy or unlimited rebuys in the first hour. I have no idea what the minimum and maximum limits are, I can't find anywhere on the PokerRoom website that covers this.

The rule is simple there to prevent the tournament starting with a player repeatedly 'rebuying' until they run out of money or reach a certain chip limit. This hasn't been the case so far because those that have played have played in the right spirit, however like Rule 2 (regarding swearing) I felt it needed to be stated in order to clear up the constant weekly confusion regarding this matter. There obviously needs to be a balance between those playing for fun with only $3 in their account and those who have a bit more money to throw around. I could of course turn them off, but where's the fun in getting involved in a KK vs AA first hand and not playing another hand for a week? Just act sensibly for the fun of all.

Believe me, if I could simply programme it to only allow rebuys once you got below, say 400 chips, then I would. But I can't.

If it is as Comical says then that is about the perfect balance; that is why most sites have as standard the system of only allowing rebuys below the original starting stack (plus one add-on at the end of the rebuy period open to all regardless of chipstack). Having people get knocked out on coolers in the first orbit does defeat the point of a social, friendly tournament as you say, and unlimited rebuys is fine and dandy because it swells the prize pool quite nicely.

Having said all this, I have too much money on too many poker sites already so don't really think I can justify depositing on yet another to play in this. I could just stick the minimum on, but that would be a waste of the first deposit bonus that I assume exists? (anyone confirm this?)

As for whoever said rebuyers were the gold farmers of poker or something similar, plz xpln? I'm not sure what you are getting at.

I have just chatted with PokerRoom live support:

BETEO_Craig:
Hi, I am setting up a private tournament and needed a little clarification on rebuys. I have set it to unlimited rebuys for the first hour. Could you tell me if there is a limit to the amount someone can rebuy based on the amoutn of chips they have? For example, everyone starts with 1500 chips. After the first hand could a player rebuy? Or is is there a maximum level of chips a player can have? I am just curios as to whether a player could repeated rebuy over and over again to gain a large chip advantage. Thanks

BETEO_Craig:
hi, i have posted my question above.

BETEO_Craig:

Mogamat:
If you set the tournament for unlimited rebuys, you can rebuy after the first hand played.

BETEO_Craig:
OK and what's the limit?

Mogamat:
There are no limits.

BETEO_Craig:
So I can rebuy after the first hand to get to 3000 chips, rebuy again to get 4500 and rebuy again indefinitely for the first hour?

Mogamat:
Yes.

BETEO_Craig:
With no maximum chip limit?

Mogamat:
Yes.

BETEO_Craig:
So to calrify I could rebuy after every single hand in the first hour?

BETEO_Craig:
Is there anything I can do set a limit to the amount of chips a player can have at one time in regard to rebuys?

Mogamat:
No setting for that.

BETEO_Craig:
So to calrify I could rebuy after every single hand in the first hour?

Mogamat:
Yes. :)

BETEO_Craig:
Is there anywhere on the PokerRoom site that provides this information or is it just taken for granted?

Mogamat:
You will find it while creating the tournament.

BETEO_Craig:
OK thanks for your help.

Mogamat:
You're welcome.

Mogamat:
Is there anything else that I can assist you with?

BETEO_Craig:
No thanks.

Mogamat:
Thank you for contacting PokerRoom.com support, goodbye.

I assume that clears matters up. Unlimited rebuys means unlimited rebuys. There are no limits.

I suggest you read the previous poker threads TheAlbinoKid as most of what you have discussed has already been touched upon.

There are though, because I've tried to buy to pre-empt me running out, then I've won the hand and it's told me I've got too many chips to be able to rebuy.
Mogamat would appear to be useless.

Or Pokerroom just has a really stupid way of setting things up. Neither option is a good thing. I prefer the "Mogamat being useless" one though, because at least it still leaves a sensible tournament after the dumb customer support is removed from the equation.

It hasn't been a problem before (other than the question being asked every week) and with the rule (or the impossibility of doing so) it won't be a problem again.

Good stuff.

Having dealt with their customer service before after they debited my account and gave me no money, I can confirm that their representative being a fuckwit is highly possible.

Yes, though not how I wanted it to be. I had to deposit more money to play, then they eventually credited me with even more money (I wanted them to return it to my bank). I guess it won't take me long to withdraw it, but, meh, they're largely crap.

I can't play tonight, which is a shame as I fancied it, but I'm on a plane at the time.

In poker-related news, I just signed up for the pokerroom site to see what it was like.

Frankly, it is grotesque. Very slow, and so many of the links (such as "tournament information" and "view last hand") link to web pages outside of the actual game area... it took me 5 minutes to manage to view a HH from a play money game I sat in, after which time I had forgotten what was odd about the hand that made me look in the first place. I don't dare click anything now for fear of (eventually) opening a window that slows the game time down even further.

So yes, my experience on the site has so far been painful verging on the agonising. How did you guys come to choose to play on this site anyway? What is wrong with the major ones, specifically Full Tilt and Pokerstars?

There's 5 threads linked, all with a large number of posts... frankly, I'm not so desperate to know that I'll wade through them all, especially considering how much they are likely to put me on tilt. If it is too much trouble to say something like "we chose Pokerroom because my Dad owns it and we all hate Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey so we'd boycott the major sites anyway even if my dad didn't own Pokerroom" then so be it, I'll just do without an answer, it's fine.

I can't even remember why we chose it. Wasn't it because Craig and everyone else got a referral bonus? It may not be the prettiest or quickest site, but it's adequate for our needs.
