I get an ever increasing dose of my daily entertainment from YouTube videos.

YouTube has mostly crap, of course, and it can be tricky to find the really good stuff. This is where subscribing to quality channels comes in. The competition to produce great videos and collect subscribers is becoming fierce, and the quality is shooting up, or at least that's my impression.

The problem is finding the good stuff, hence this thread.

So let me start it off with a couple of the best channels in my current subscription list:

Did You Know Gaming - All you want to know about particular video games.
https://www.youtube.com/user/DYKGaming

Escapist - For watching Zero Punctuation's video game reviews.
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheEscapistMagazine

Geek & Sundry - For watching Table Top, where Wil Wheaton plays board games with groups of fun people, and now also an episodic RPG called TITANSGRAVE. They have loads more, but I don't watch that.
https://www.youtube.com/user/geekandsundry

JANGBRICKS - Reviews of LEGO sets, new and classic.
https://www.youtube.com/user/LEGOJANG

Lord Karnage - Classic Game Room reviews old video games.
https://www.youtube.com/user/InecomCompany

And of course the channels of a couple of old friends of ours:

ashens - Reviews guff.
https://www.youtube.com/user/ashens

ChinnyVision - Reviews old video games.
https://www.youtube.com/user/chinnyhill10

I'll tell you what my guilty pleasure is at the minute, these two guys who do Console Wars. It's low budget and silly and they've only got a couple of thousand subscribers, but they make me laugh my ass off. I've watched every last one of their videos and I have no idea why.

Nerdist :

https://www.youtube.com/user/Nerdist/videos

A lot of similarity / crossover with Geek & Sundry (both were Google sponsored for a while) - Nerdist News is a quick 5 minute wrap up of news stuff for the day and there are other bits on there which you might find interesting.

Jim Sterling :

https://www.youtube.com/user/JimSterling

ex-video game 'journalist' , plays (and rips to shreds) crappy steam games , and home of the 'Jimquisition' where he talks about the games industry - the Jimquisition stuff is a 'caricature' and is meant to be a little over the top but I find him funny and very on point.

Feel free to recommend channels on any subject, by the way, I have too much stuff about reviews and video games and I would love to broaden it!

I subscribe to the following:-

Metaljesusrocks - A cool dude who talks about games. He has special guests on and is generally very likeable.

Retro liberty - Fantastically produced videos from a few American guys. Again, they seem like really nice people and their NES pursuit videos are great.

Game Sack - The guy who edits this is a proper video geek so the quality is amazing. Apart from some wooden commentary, generally very entertaining and informative.

This would be my pick as well. The only time I'd say the actual Jimquisition episodes descend into caricature are in the few minutes either side of each episodes where he acts up to camera, but the actual content of the videos is done straight and is generally very insightful pro-consumer commentary on the state of the industry. I've got a lot of time in general for Jim fucking Sterling son; he's good people. Also: the reason I played the awesome Deadly Premonition when he covered it as Destructoid's reviews editor so I've got him to thank for that.

Also.. Useful thread! I watch YouTube on my iPad while I do the washing up at night so 10-20 minute videos are ideal. Broaden my horizons people!

The other thing I've found myself watching recently is the channel of the Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo show on BBC radio, specifically the videos of Kermode reviewing films just to see what he says. Mostly by picking shit films and watching him rip them apart for shits and giggles.

Yeah, I don't know how to link a user do I?

Here's a link to one of their videos if anyone fancies following it to their channel:

Few that I flick through when I'm at a loose end for something to watch. Please note that with some of these you're actually best off searching through the archives as it gets progressively harder for them to find new stuff to cover.

CINEMA SINS - Mostly 'Everything wrong with Film X in ten minutes' sort of things
SCREEN JUNKIES - Home of Honest Trailers
GAMESACK - (Already mentioned and I give it another big thumbs up)
JOHN OLIVER LAST WEEK TONIGHT - Very funny UK guy working in the States
WATCHMOJO - Top ten 'movies about this' or 'movies with this thing in' lists

My main one though is Trump's Hearthstone channel, but I appreciate that will be rather niche. (I watch 30-60 minutes of him every night before I go to bed, I only watch things on the other channels if there's nothing new on his.)

The you tube video links never work for me (blacked out) so I always just torrent the show but a +1 for this.

The videos seem to get BLOCKED IN YOUR COUNTRY for a few weeks, then play normally, for some bizarre reason.

If you go for the videos on YouTube that are around six weeks old or older, they should play fine. (There's also a lot of great clips to work through if you're new to the channel.)

Not seeing any fiction in your list, but The Vault is good shit: https://www.youtube.com/user/VaultShow (there's a Beex thread about it somewhere).

The Guild is fun too, but a bit cuddly for some.

Personally, I can spend hours watching win/fail videos like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CAFH6kVmAw You never know if they're going to do something cool or faceplant!

Actually, there is some fiction on Geek & Sundry. They had some paranormal investigation thing that I liked, but that was a while ago. I hope they'll make another season of that.

There's a load on here that I like tha you probably won't like such as Sargon Of Akkad's gaming and politics channel or Thunderf00t so I'll just link to some entertaining stuff instead.

https://www.youtube.com/user/OliPutland Oli Putland's animation channel.
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheMessianicManic/featured The Messianc Manic mostly atheism if you're into that.
The next two I'm not subbed to but are worth a look.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCohllq0Pk5lQuuNANabHKcg Pooppoopfart. Mostly game music covers and that.
https://www.youtube.com/user/HarryPartridge Harry Partridge more animation and that.

Good/funny movie reviews. Half in the Bag is more conversational style, but they also do the occasional Plinkett reviews which are far more structured, and more of a performance too. They do games stuff too, but it's much worse than their movie stuff, and on a different youtube channel:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrTNhL ... dQ5XgmmWjA

Nerdy fairly technical dry game analysis, dude has a somewhat monotone voice and nitpicking style, but he has a great understanding of games, and talks about things in detail that resonates with me:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb_sF2 ... qeNEdMwQPw

In depth well thought out videos about a wide subject of games related topics, it's some reviews, some industry analysis, and some discussion of the medium in broader terms:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWqr2t ... hPjV5h1xRw

In depth movie analysis from a professional movie editor:

I'd like to think that I've got a little bit more... Down there, if you catch my drift.

Although... Ask me again after Wednesday. My friends have lovingly dubbed it V day.

They're blocked until they air in this country a few weeks later on Sky Atlantic, or something along those lines. Tremendously annoying, as I would happily pay for Sky Atlantic if you could do so via Virgin Media.

Sapphire and Steel is great but they may simply be removing it so they can sell it on DVD and Bluray

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_ ... Caps%2C159

(I bought it on both DVD in the past and Bluray a while back)

And if your a fan check out the Big Finish audio plays for it (David Warner makes an excellent Steel)
