Aaron Sorkin to pen a film about the rise of Facebook.

Good. Fucking. Lord.

It's not just that, but it's AARON FUCKING SORKIN doing it.

The man used to be a god. Now? Now he's just some cunt with a typewriter.

The only film about Facebook that I'd like to see is one that's similar to the very end of Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back. Where two disgruntled Facebook users go scouring the Earth looking for all the developers of the retarded Applications and beat some traditional Internet Justice(tm) into them.

Or we use "facebook use" as the criteria for population thinning, and a New Utoipia is born.

Still, at least it's a better idea for a movie than a Bill Hicks biopic starring Russell Crowe, eh?

By the way, Doc, that 'Mirrorball' film that's coming out, the baseball one - I didn't know that Sorkin did the screenplay for that. I wonder how much like the original material it is.

You mean "Moneyball", and yes, I knew Sorkin worked on the screenplay. I'm more excited about the fact it's written by Michael "Liar's Poker/The Big Short" Lewis, however. It's on my to-watch list for sure (despite the fact I don't care about baseball, and despite the only other Lewis movie adaptation being the sickeningly saccharin The Blind Side).

That was rather my point though. I know what a Michael Lewis book is like, and I know what an Aaron Sorkin original screenplay is like. It's what happens when you make one adapt the other that interests me.

Oh, I see. Yes. In theory, Lewis's eye for character with Sorkin's eye for dialog could be a match made in heaven.

Did you see Sorkin's cameo on 30 Rock? It was roflcopters.

I saw Moneyball at the cinema. It's ok and Brad Pitt does a pretty good job, but the book is much more interesting.

Heh. Still in fairness, it did sound like a fucking stupid idea. And I still woudn't bother watching it no matter how much you stand on a box and bum it.

It's not bad. It's a fascinating story, but I don't think it really made for that compelling a film.

I still, despite all the bumming of it, have zero desire to see Social Network. None at all.

It's most remarkable feature is quite how unremarkable it is yet still watchable.

I think it's fantastic. The premise doesn't really affect the quality - I love it for the dialogue, which is exquisite.

Well, it is Sorkin. If there's one thing he can do right, it's dialogue.

I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again, but if it was on tellybox, I'd happily rewatch it.

Like the early posts in this thread my initial reaction to the whole idea of this film was utter disgust. I mean Facebook can fuck off in general but, that aside, you're making a film about a website? Seriously? Wait, Aaron Sorkin's writing it? Gnnnh! No, I'm standing firm, it'll still be shit. Wait, what was that? Trent Reznor's doing the soundtrack. Oh for fuck's sake, alright then, I suppose I'll deign to allow it to be put in front of my eyes.

In the end it was a bit of a non-event to me. Sorkin's dialogue didn't really pop as much as I was expecting and none of the rest of it really offended me so I give it a 'meh' out of ten. The only thing it left in my head was wondering as whether Zuckerberg really was that much of a needles, horrible cunt to Saverin or if it was mostly artistic license. There didn't seem to be any real reason for him to suddenly start acting like such a massive prick which sort of deflated that central pillar of the plot for me. No doubt I've completely missed or misinterpreted something during my half-drunk viewing but the fact I couldn't even be bothered to read up about that afterwards demonstrates how little I was bothered by the film either way.

I, admittedly, only saw bits of it, but thought it was very blahverage, and some of the reviewers went rather overboard on it. It didn't really keep my interest.
