Ah, yes, that's exactly the kind of thing I have been looking for. Looks brill for floors and cupboard doors, etc. yes, I'd be very I terested to hear from people who own one, too!

We've got a 'Shark' steam mop for the tiled areas.

Works pretty well, gets the grub off easily from around where the kids chuck their food on the floor. Seems to get dried crud off more easily than a trad mop. Gives a nice, non-chemically, smell too.

I'm glad we've got one. I wouldn't buy anything too fancy though.

Ooh, didn't see this. Yes please, if Jem has one. Jem, do you find it quite hygienic, do you think? Using bleach and similar chemicals really affects my chest, so we are looking for an alternative for things like the bathroom floor, kitchen floor and cupboard and bathroom tiles to hopefully help keep things clean and germ free without the smell and harshness of cleaning products.

I have a steam cleaner and it's great as long as your don't mind things being sodden when you're done.

They also aren't something you'd use for disinfecting - some of them talk about killing 99.9% of bacteria, but that's based on lab tests of stuff right next to where the steam comes out. Because by the time it gets to the surface the steam is just warm water, the bacteria actually on the floor or worktop or whatever is just moved around and warmed up to a temperature where the bacteria likes to breed.

I doubt that temperature endures

Aw, that's a shame. I thought it would be like one of those adverts where I could invite toddlers around to eat peas and carrot batons off of my kitchen floor without worrying.

@Mali It doesn't, no, but that's the point. Nothing gets heated to a temperature where it actually kills bacteria.

@Meems- you could do that, but only if you've used chemicals and THE PRODUCTS OF ACTUAL SCIENCE. BWAHAHAHAAH

I have a steam mop. My ex bought it me for my birthday last year. Can't remember the make/model, I can check that when I get home, but it was probably the cheapest one Amazon sells

I don't use it on carpet (or indeed very often at all, because I'm lazy) but I have used it on wood, vinyl and tile and it's awesome. It can lift old dropped mushed weetabix from my textured vinyl floor NO PROBLEM (anyone with kids will likely know that weetabix is harder than concrete when it sets hard).

My toddler eats cat biscuits off the kitchen floor if that counts for anything? Whether or not I've cleaned it at the time is fairly irrelevant to that, though.

Oh yeah, I meant to say I've got an x5. Fab on floors, while it's not even slightly heavy I do find it cumbersome for anything above the floor though, I have a slightly older Vax handheld I use for anything else.

OK! So mine is a Hyundai which just does on and off, so chances are it's identical to the cheapy one. Never had any problems with mine but as I said above, I'm so lazy
