I never played Homeworld. Or Homeworld 2.

This made me realise that I hate Gearbox.

I have no faith they will do this justice.

They spend their time these days with terrible ports and skinner boxes. This deserves better than them. But hey, at least they are doing it.

I have no idea what Homeworld is. Wasn't it an early Suda51 game on the GBA?

Why do we need HD versions again? What does it even mean?

It will run on modern PCs and look pretty.

I'm happy with that.

I loved this game so much. It's the only strategy game I've ever got into, just everything about it is magical. The decent plot, excellent voice acting, the score and most of all the Chris Foss style spaceship designs. Perfect.

Well I'm looking forward to it. I bought Homeworld when it first came out but could never get my head around the 3Dness of it. I'd love to give it another shot though. The game is pretty much drenched in atmosphere. I'd have thought the original would still look pretty even now though - it was certainly the most spectacular looking game I'd ever seen when it was first released.

Not as new as you'd like, but it still plays wonderfully. The first one was truly scary in parts, too.

Ah, I do seem to remember now that there were issues in higher resolutions, like the FMV not being scaled and shown in a tiny frame in the center of the screen, and maybe something with the HUD as well. So maybe "HD" remakes do make sense. Yeah, I was a bit tired and grumpy last night.

The games were great - the expansion for the first game as well.

In case you were wondering, it turns out I was thinking of Contact. Still, that Homeworld, aye?

I was a super-plus fan of Homeworld 1 & 2 back in the day. There was nothing quite so satisfying as having a carrier pootle along towards the enemy base and then disgorge a dickload of fighters, before putting them in a sphere formation to knock the bollocks out of it.

I seem to recall there was one level with radiation gas clouds that exploded your ships if you went in them. That annoyed me because if you had a zillion frigates (which all lined up to the left of your mothership), you'd start the level with half of them hyperspacing in to a radiation cloud and they'd all get exploded very quickly.

I don't know if this is any good, but this space RTS is on sale on Steam for the next forty hours.

These were some of the best RTS games made, and hands down the best space ones.

Homeworld's ship design and atmosphere is so wonderful, I suspect that's most of the reason why it is so well loved. Gameplay was pretty neat too.

And yet astonishingly there are countless space themed games out there who don't think it important to hire a decent concept artist. Did you see the Sid Meier's Starships? They look like glued together shoe-boxes with stubby little wings.

Rock Paper Shotgun put out some hires screen shots and stuff here, in case you missed it. Looks like they have done a marvelous job of it.

Oh my, it's lovely.

Oooh, lush. Audio sounds great too. I especially enjoy the sunbeam effect when your ship blocks a sun.

If you get all six, it crashes.

Oh, that makes me feel better for repeatedly failing to save them all, all those years.
