So. Mr Dave ISN'T Mr Dave. Possibly. At this point would the real Mr Dave (please stand up, please stand up) be a valuable reveal or is it too early? The Doctor could protect him as he doesn't have to wait until night time to investigate so we'd get the results before a possible kill. But then he might get killed. And at this stage it's fairly pot luck so might not be all that helpful.

There's no indication we have a doctor so Mr Dave (no, the other one) roleclaiming is probably not worthwhile unless he already has useful info.

Having said that, the argument for a mass roleclaim still applies like it did last time - there's no roles with multiple people, so a valid idea. Might be a bit against the spirit though :)

Oh wait, it totally doesn't apply. We'd know who everyone is, but not what their win conditions are - so useless.

This line of thinking is fallacious considering the GM has chosen everyone's win conditions, not the players. We can't assume Mr Dave is good or otherwise.

Er...

Character name: The Doctor
Description: renegade Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey
Night power (if any): can choose to protect someone overnight.

Well, yeah. Let's break down what I said -

Piece of information: Mr Dave Might not be good despite detectiving - "Assuming, of course, that Mr Dave is a pro-town kinda guy"
Subsequent reiteration that I'm a good guy, and much prefer "be"ing them: "Which he ought to be in order to "be" Mr Dave"

Although I believe there was an opportunity to rewrite should one be able to kill.

"We" may not be able to include the Doctor among our numbers. He may be a bad-un, and disinterested in protecting somone who isn't his kin.

This is where I totally pretend that what Mr Dave (no, not that one) said is what I meant, and I didn't gloss over the fact that The Doctor was, in fact, cunningly, a doctor.

I am not a bad guy.

Conveniently forgetting that there's a potential (because yeah, he might be a bad dude) save role out there?

Tsk.

So a few thoughts :

The cult may have multiple ways of spreading and because they are around I think we really should be trying to do something on day 1
The fact that some people can only use their ability on people once is an issue because its likely that their goals will change over the game

I would think that Gaz's information is correct , and I'd say the two neutral are the cult + some type of SK

Mr Dave's role (not the real Mr Dave the characters) makes my head hurt.

The Bin role makes me smile :-)

I suspect that there would be a Mafia kill role, just not a mentioned one. We'll find out soon enough, no doubt.

Cruise is probably culty, though it might actually be a joke and he isn't, which would be amusing. Would be ace if he was an incompetent cult leader who couldn't recruit anyone. No idea who else would be neutral. Possibly the bin.

I don't think that someone would write an incompetent cult leader role for themselves, somehow.

I'd mainly be looking at the people lacking an obvious night role... Hollis, Fraudster, Cedrick for killing peoples.
But of course, no idea who they actually are. It's still a potshoot at the moment, bar the people with day actions.

Maybe, but would you be allowed to write yourself an actual cult leader?

It's a mystery!

Would you write yourself a cult leader role without first checking you could? If it were me, I'd check it was a valid role before submitting it.

I suppose it could be a cult without win condition change. Something like the masons where they can chat amongst themselves. And Praise Elrond.

Or a bona-fide cult, but again the lack of a cult condition and explicit denial make me a little doubtful.

I agree with much of this. There are 12 of us, so it's important to consider how many days (or lynches) we might have to win (assuming one Mafia killer, one SK and a cult). There is the potential to lose three town tonight.

Day 1 is always a crap shoot anyway.

I heard that in a film once. I'm assuming that I'm using it correctly.

We should get that "Who are the quiet ones" thing in here to assist. The quiet ones are probably afraid of the 8 post count thing and therefore bad uns.

He said that he knew the alignments in the game, and that there were three maf and two neutral.

It would be a super-bold early lie, so I'm inclined to believe there's no cult.

Neutral generally means not associated with any group. Which wouldn't be the case for a cult. Which is decidedly groupie.

Surely there needs to be more than one for there to be a group though? The cult leader could be hit on night one before getting chance to recruit, so never really part of a group.

You're beng super unhelpful at the minute. What's the point here? To push the cult to target Gazchao making a helpful role to be counter-town? To force Gaz to role claim? Oh wait he did!' And no no one is disputing it so it's probably real.

Either you've got a death wish or something else. Sounds very untown.

It was done for multiple reasons. Amongst which foremost are:

1) To remind the Town that even if Gaz is telling the truth now, he may be lying very soon
2) If there is a cult leader there will likely be people he cannot recruit. If Gaz, with all his powers, is one, it could draw a failed convert action. Alternatively, he could recruit Gaz; this is still not all bad as any anti-Mafia info gleaned would be truthfully passed on. Obviously though we would need to kill him at a later date.

Of course, he could also be Mafia for all we know.

I'm going to go ahead and say there's little point doing any lynching today. We have no clue which roles correlate to win conditions so very little to go on, and with every role being a potential power role, much to lose.

He wants to let the bad guys kill us all and us not to do the only thing that we can; press people for info and hope we get lucky.

Even if we're not lynching we should try something. we could feasibly start tomorrow with a growing cult and two more dead townies (Mafia and SK/Vig), plus bugger all info.

I'm with this - as always, the no lynch is a pointless waste of a day when we could potentially hit bad / cult / SK even if only by chance. They're going to go for it, so I say so do we.

Ooooh, a new debate!

Helpful I know, but Zaphod, if you want to vote for someone, you are going to have to convince people. We have nothing to go off, so it is completely random, who should we vote for? Note, it isn't me.

Also, if the sides were handed out by trooper, wouldn't cult count as a side, so if it is random, then* there is a chance that Tom Cruise isn't the cult leader, and there may not even be a cult, even if Tom wants to be a cult leader.

*almost certainly not random.

This from you, after I had to point out Gazchap's earlier post to you where he said there is no cult?

Quoting this because people appear to be ignoring it totally.

This is possibly going to get me killed, so if The Doctor wants to protect me overnight, then that's fine with me. I figure this is a pretty good thing for the town to know at this point as day 1 is traditionally the one with no info.

I'm Psychic Steve. My allegiance is Town. I can investigate people overnight (once only per person though) and find out their faction.

However, my psychic abilities don't stop there. At the start of each day, I think really hard about the town and I can find out how many of each faction there are - except for my own faction.

My strong thoughts and crystal balls have told me that there are three Mafia and two neutrals. It's strongly hinted of course that Tom Cruise is a cult leader - if I survive this night I'll be able to find out if he's been recruiting.

Either GazChap is lying scum, or there is no cult.
