So I purchased a new tv last week (Black Friday deal)
http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravia-kd ... hd/p454379

It's lovely compared to my trusty eight year old 32" Hitachi, it has 1080p, Smart Apps, Freeview HD & lots other crap that I am still learning how to use. Enjoyed watching Match of the Day yesterday in lovely HD.

Not sure what movie to get to really show off the 3D?
I have Lovefilm so I have put Finding Nemo at the top of the list for the next rental but what else?

Don't really want to watch Avatar again (seen it too many times & the kids will not watch it).

Gravity is the only film I've watched where I felt the 3d improved the experience, but it's not out on home media yet I'm afraid.

Life of Pi is supposed to be good. I've watched the first 10 minutes a few times, to show off 3D on my TV to people who wanted to see it working.

As with everybody I suspect, I've never used 3D on it other than that :D

Tron Legacy. It's not the best film (really needed most of the dialogue/plot taken out) but it's fucking beautiful, and I quite liked the implementation of 3D when I saw it at the cinema.

I've watched the odd football match on mine, but as I only have 1 pair of glasses (and there is very rarely only one person watching the TV) 3D does not get used very often.

The TV came with 4 pairs & I have ordered four more. Only time will tell if it is something we use more or forget it in a few months.

My 3D TV has been used to watch Captain America (alright), watch tennis (rubbish) and play Stardust on my PS3 (as good as 2D).

That's the lot after 2/3 years of owning it.

Yes I expect the novelty will wear off in a few months, although I rent all my movies from Lovefilm so I will go for the 3D option instead of the 2D.

Annoying that the PS4 does not play 3D Blu-Rays will need to reconnect the PS3 console.

Side note - when is your next blog post coming? have you given up?

Just checked Netflix nothing apparently on the UK site but quite a few on the US site will need to reconfigure the PS3 to go via unblockus DNS

I thought Prometheus was improved by the subtle use of 3D. Shame it was a bit of a rubbish film, mind.

Oh, and UP looked good in the third dimension too. I've no idea if they're available on blu-Ray or whether you'd get the same experience at home.

If I had a 3D telly I'd probably just play Shadow of the Collosus on it all day. It's got 60 frames per second dontchaknow.

I will add Up & Toy Story to my Lovefilm. Did not think about gaming I have Ico & SOTC from the PS+ subscription not sure if they are 3d versions or not.

I'd love to see Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D. I even have it on Blu-ray, courtesy of this excellent box set, I just need to find someone with a 3D TV.

I'm sure they are. BLOPS2 and the 2nd Batman were 3D too, I think.

I really liked Tron Legacy at the cinema. I can't imagine watching it in 2D, as it seems to have been created as a 3D loveliness tech demo. As opposed to a few other things i have seen, in which it is largely tacked on and weird.

Oh, and the soundtrack benefited from being on megalospeakers too.

Agreed. Although it's still fantastic looking in 2D, and has some amazing set pieces. I quite like a few aspects of the story (I thought they did a great job of tying it into the original), but there was lots of scenes that were just bollocks exposition. It needed the sensibilities of something like Drive, shut up talking, just blow me away with what is happening on the screen.

I spent 10 minutes Gooling for pictures of Tim Henman on the beach, at the seaside, eventually trying Tim Henman swimming, at the pool. Gave up - no pictures exist on THE WHOLE INTERNET. So then I tried Tim Curry, Tim Rice (because rice and curry) and then Tim Minchin. Seriously, nobody called Tim has ever been to the beach.

Timmy was the nearest and then, somehow, only one picture could I find:

My Google-Fu is all out of sorts.

Maybe I should have just put 'Tim Beach' and gone for a more general search of people clled Tim.

Maybe my mistake was that I searched for a Specific Tim.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
(I'm here all week)

I've never really bothered with 3D, but I remember reading that (at the time) Avatar was supposed to one of the few films done "properly" in 3D

Once Cameron did it and cinemas realised they could charge more money for 3D everyone jumped on the band wagon with not so great results in some cases.

That was a while ago so I guess things have improved, if you look here most 3D Blu Ray films are reviewed

Gravity is the only film I've seen in 3d that I felt genuinely benefited from it, but I was also (both times) in an IMAX cinema with a really really serious sound system. That might have coloured my judgement.

3D is the biggest waste of time since…3D last time.

I notice that a lot of the new TVs have stripped it out completely.

4/5K on large screens I can get behind though.
