If by some chance you can get a Sony Ericsson Elm I think you'll like it.
Nice and slim phone with a decent keypad and screen, a passable camera and brilliant battery life. I had to charge mine yesterday for the first time after a fortnight.

I was going to say. You can't use the PS4 as a DLNA server, but you could with the PS3, and Macs don't support FireWire anymore. Just two examples I can think of.

Really miss my SGH-D500 slide phone.

The transflective display meant you could see the date/time and whether there were any missed calls, texts, voicemails etc without even having to prod it to wake it up.

The slide open to answer, click shut to hang up mechanism was miles better than having to fiddle with a touchscreen or buttons, too.

And that's before you even get to the weeks-long battery life...

This from the person that, until very recently, had to touch the keys individually like a caveman or something.

Swype is a gimmick.

If it's not, then why are the majority of Android users not using it? It's fun for a while but the novelty soon wears off.

Because the stock Android keyboard does the same thing?

I'm probably the only android user that I know who doesn't use some kind of swipey keyboard...

Not that I've done an extensive survey, but...

If it was that great you would always remember.

I've been mildly tempted this past week to pick up an old Nokia 3330 or something and see if I can survive just using that for a month. I rarely use my iPhone for actual communication (i.e. calls and texts) so it would be curious to see whether my web/Facebook/twitter habit can be curbed with a dumbphone.

Is it a habit you think is detrimental?

If you rarely make and receive calls/texts what's the point in having a mobile at all if you want to reduce your web usage? Just get an answerphone at home.

The occasions I do need to call/text, I'm almost never at home.

What's particularly annoying is that my new house is in an area that has such poor mobile signal (despite coverage maps saying otherwise) that if I'm in my house, 95% of the time I have no signal at all.

Don't think it's detrimental, call it just a mild curiosity. I use the phone for work, for playing music in the car, for tracking runs, work-outs etc. so it has its uses.

I've been without a smartphone for a week now and I hate it. I feel cut off. Saying that, it is quite liberating :)

You hate feeling liberated?

I'm sure that not having a house to worry about or a job to go to would initially feel quite liberating too.

Doesn't mean it's overly desirable.

I don't know... I didn't have a job for about 9 months once and that was ace. My mom and dad would probably tell a different story though.

Indeed. I feel very cut off from my usual day-to-day stuff, but in 7 days, I have ceased to reflexively reach for my phone every 20 seconds

I don't think I would like it. I'd have to actually speak to the people I work with rather that refresh Twitter every two minutes.
