So, my .co.uk domain name is expiring soon.

I had an email from Nominet UK saying I can have a .uk domain 'reserved' instead of .co.uk, or something along those lines.

What would be the advantages of a .uk domain name? Would the registry keep my personal details private, as with the .co.uk domain name?

Also, I use Google to link GMail to my domain name, so I have webmail. That was set up years ago, can't remember the exact details of how I went about it. Would I still be able to do this if I bought a brand new .uk domain?

Thanks.

As the owner of a .co.uk, you get first dips on the .uk of it.

I like them, because they're shorter easier to type in. Important that you have both for now, though, as people are not used to them yet, and will assume when you say "uk" that you mean "co uk".

Apart from the 'co' bit, there are no differences between '.uk' and '.co.uk'.

As for privacy, there's info on how to opt-out of the Nominet database here: https://www.123-reg.co.uk/support/answe ... ount-1522/

Although I'd say unless you had a really good reason for having one I wouldn't bother.

Thanks both. :)

Prob will get the .uk domain, the six quid asking price isn't too bad on balance, and it might become the default thing. Possibly.
