I was coming here to post that it now had a release date but I cant find any thread on this so I'll post the trailer up first

New game from the creators of Left 4 Dead , 4 v 1 - the 4 have different classes and the 1 is a monster who can consume other things and evolve into a stronger creature

Turtle Rock Studios' cooperative-competitive shooter Evolve will be released globally on Oct. 21 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher 2K Games announced today.

Evolve pits a team of four hunters, each with their own skills and specialties, against a giant, player-controlled monster in multiplayer mortal combat on a deadly alien world. The four-against-one game is in development at Turtle Rock, original creators of Left 4 Dead.

2K is offering a pre-order incentive for Evolve called the Monster Expansion Pack. It will include the Savage Goliath skin for one of the game's giant monsters, as well as a new monster character that will be released after Evolve ships in October.

For more on Evolve, read Polygon's hands-on impressions of the game's original four classes and the Goliath monster.

The fact that the L4D team are working on anything but L4D3 is a fucking travesty >:(

Valve shut the studio down after L4D1, so it's Valve's fault entirely. Plus L4D2 doesn't appear to have had much/anything to do with them anyway.

I'm sick to death of the generic look of space suits/metal body armour that's identical to Master Chief/Gears etc. I want to see characters in, erm, long coats and, um, feather boa.

Delayed till Feb :-(

Take-Two Delays Evolve Until February
The amount of games actually coming out this fall continues to thin.

The latest game to move from fall 2014 until early 2015? Evolve. It's now scheduled for February 10.

Yup.

Take-Two casually announced a delay for the anticipated multiplayer shooter as part of its earning report.

You sure it isn't Alpha?

Also, this has been advertised as sponsoring WWE stuff on Sky for months now. I'm amazed that it's still not out.

It was supposed to be out in October and was delayed - from the videos n stuff that was around at E3 time I really think its finished and they just wanted to avoid Destiny and COD at this time of the year

Hmmm...based on an extensive couple of sessions (i.e. not very extensive at all). I'm not sure about this one. Of course it's still in Alpha but it does seem very limited, it's definitely no L4D. It does look very pretty in a Halo type way but I'm not sure it offers anything in addition to L4D2 (or 1 at that matter).

:this: Played around 10 games in total to give it a fair chance, just doesn't feel fun to me. Even when you playing the monster and are crushing the enemy it just feels very meh....

Fair point Myp (well, fair-ish...in the ishiest way possible) but I doubt the core game play is going to change dramatically before launch.

Is it the core gameplay that's the problem then? Or is it unbalanced towards one side or the other?

To be fair, L4D/2 were both unbalanced games in Versus anyway.

Of course, it's actually impossible to criticise L4D2, because it's actually the best game ever made.

I criticise Valve for releasing it 12 months after the first game and splitting the player base.

Well it was due for release for Christmas, so would be due out very soon, the reason for the delay was to avoid the holiday rush and they will use the extra time to add some polish. For me this game needs a lot more than polish. So yes you raise a point, but one that has very little impact on my viewpoint ;)

I just got an email inviting me into a test for it again this weekend

Quote:
Once again, it's time to hunt together - or kill alone. Welcome to the Evolve PS4 closed technical test!

In about a month, Evolve will launch! However, you won't need to wait until February 10th for this new taste of what Evolve is like. After the Big Alpha, we wanted to give you another chance to play Evolve prior to launch. And here it is - a closed technical test for Evolve. You're getting this invite because you were invited to participate in the Big Alpha. Starting Saturday, January 17th at 9am PST, we need your help once again. You have been granted access to a closed technical test for Evolve. Included in this email is your new product code.

Fans will be able to play Evolve's "Hunt" game mode with access to the first two monsters (Goliath and Kraken) and first eight hunters (Markov, Maggie, Val, Hank, Hyde, Griffin, Lazarus, and Bucket) across all 12 maps that support "Hunt" and are included at the time of launch.

How do you get in? In the PlayStation Store, scroll all the way down to "Redeem Codes" in the left-hand column. From the Web go to https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com and click on your account name, then look for "Redeem Codes." From there, enter the 12-digit voucher code in this email.

After that, queue up the download and Evolve will be in your Game Library, ready for battle on January 17th.

As part of this closed technical test, we want to continue to stress test the servers and need your help to do it - so at 2pm PST on Saturday January 17th, we need as many people as possible to be online and playing Evolve.

Welcome back to the fight for Shear!

Happy Hunting.

-The Evolve team at Turtle Rock Studios and 2K

Hmm...just noticed that "Evolve Closed Beta" has popped up in my Steam Library, no idea when it starts though, I assume it's this weekend as well.

The more I read about this, the more I want to play L4D again and am sad that the community got fractured after 12 months because they released a sequel too soon.

Yes isn't it awful how Valve just keep releasing games all the time. I can't keep up with all their new releases, I wish they'd slow down.

L4D was released in 2008. They released the sequel in 2009 - I said at the time it was too soon. If they'd waited another year it would have been much better - as it was, you had the annoying situation where some people bought the new game and rendered the first game obsolete, and the players who stuck with the first game saw people leave en masse which massively reduced the player-base for a game only one year old. Valve aren't exactly known for annual releases, so it was a shame, especially as there's not been a L4D3 in the previous six years.

I'd prefer if they released a new l4d every year (assuming they maintained the quality) than having adopted their new policy of not making games any more.

Or the 'dreaded' map packs , the L4D stuff did actually work quite well and I liked a number of the add on maps and the way they changed some of the modes around but you need enough of a population playing the game and then others buying it to keep developers working on content after release.

L4D was pretty simple. You learned the maps very quickly, whilst at the same time they were big enough that it would have been a fair bit of work creating new maps. As such I was definitely ready for new maps by the time L4D2 came out. They could have released more maps for L4D1, but then I wouldn't be able to machete fools in the face, so that would have been boring (also map packs split the user base almost as much as complete games). They released map packs for L4D2 and really should have carried on doing so.
