So, TIL that clingfilm, tin foil and the like have little cardboard tabs you can push in to keep the roll in the box.

:blown:

What else am I doing wrong without even realising?

I only found that out when someone posted it in a 'stuff you never knew but should' thread in 4chan of all places a couple of years ago; it was quite the revelation.

I only found out.

There is an arrow next to the fuel pump symbol on your dashboard. This arrow points to the side with the filler cap.

Your fuel cap is clearly on the left.

Just because some cars get it wrong doesn't mean it's not a "thing" in others.

And it doesn't mean that not doing it right in your car doesn't make you a dick when you build it.

And who the fuck are hoax-slayers? Some cut-rate part of Snopes?

[edit]Nothing to do with Snopes, apparently. They've properly ripped them off!

[edit]It's wrong on the Tomcat because I turned the fuel tank around HYPOCRITE LULZ

It's usually not the side the pump icon is on, but the side that the hose is drawn on the icon.

You're not supposed to open bananas by grabbing the stalk bit at the top and tearing open, you should squeeze the other end between your finger and thumb and then tear the skin down from that end.

But what do you mean by 'not supposed to'? By who's decree? I've heard that so many times, but always wonder who decides which the 'right' way is?

See, that's nonsense too. Why do monkeys decide which way is best? Monkeys also get nuts out of shells by bashing them with huge rocks, that doesn't make it better than using nut crackers, or one of those metal things that looks like a medieval guitar plectrum.

You make a good point.

This also makes me reconsider my position on my policy of throwing poop at anyone that comes to visit me at my flat.

Also, cling film is much easier to tear if you hold the roll vertical rather than horizontal.

My Range Rover does and it's 24 years old. And wrong.

I think what we can gain from this is that most cars do it (especially nowadays), and some cars don't.

Agreed. It's not just the dispenser; the cling film itself is much better (doesn't tear as easily and sticks to itself much better).

Please reassure me that there are more people here who have noticed that these days a petrol pump will happily stretch over your car to the 'wrong' side, rendering it irrelevant which side you stop? I just go for the first free pump, don't faff about with the 'right' side.

The big petrol stations have these, but funnily enough my local Shell garage is quite small, and they don't reach over to the other side (as I found out recently when trying to do exactly this as they only have one pump of V-Power).

I still end up with the back of the car ever so slightly too far from the pump, and end up either having to maneovure, force the hose in awkwardly, or spill petrol on my trousers.

Did you pull the nozzle hard enough? Was the shaft stuck on anything? Did you have problems getting it in the hole?

See, that's just a bit odd, really, but it can't be uncommon, as plenty of people wait for the right pump. Odd, that is if it makes you wait for a pump, or waste time working out which side you need facing the pump. If none of those apply, then fair enough.

My car has the arrow :)
I would rather wait than look silly wrestling the pump at an odd angle into the car.
