I'm not sure I understand why the books on this page were chosen, but I've read 18 of them.

What about you?

If I change it to "Films I've seen" it's 32!

13. Aided by being forced to read them for school. (Although I do believe I only read 50 pages of Wuthering heights before I refused to read any more from it being irredeemably boring shit*.

So 12.2.

(GCSE projects bases on books you haven't read are fun. Certainly more so than Wuthering heights. Although I think I aged my English teacher a few years in the process)

I have repeatedly failed to get into 'A Tale of Two Cities', though at my last attempt I got as far as page 50.

22. But why have The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lion the witch and the wardrobe separate?

25, with some questions over whether I read the Count of Monte Cristo or not. I am sure I read it when I was younger. There are about 10 others I started and gave up on. And there are number I don't even plan on starting, Da Vinci Code?

The only conclusion I can draw from these emerging statistics is that books are bad for you. I certainly shan't be reading any more of them.

13.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
LOtr
1984
the hobbit
crime and punishment
grapes of wrath
animal farm
the da vinci code (i could have skipped this one)
dune
the lord of flies
brave new world
count of monte cristo
moby dick
the little prince

But i really question this selection, as there are so many shit or non essential books there.

Da Vinci Code?? The Hobbit??

Also i never understood what's so special about Dune. Once i had to stay on month in Mozambique for work and that's the book i was stuck with.

It was shit.

But not as bad as Wuthering heights.

Oh, I saw this earlier on Facebook. I've read 31 of that lot. A few of those I wish I hadn't read. It's a very odd collection of titles as well. The complete works of Shakespeare and Hamlet as separate entries?

I have Wuthering heights somewhere on the shelf. I was thinking about reading it in the summer since it's lightweight to take to the beach.

26, but it's a weird selection. I didn't chose the bible because I don't think I've read that edition of it although I have read the bible. There were also a few I thought I had read but couldn't remember. Don't understand why Dan Brown is on there, or narnia and Shakespeare are there twice when there are plenty of other good books they could have used.
It's almost like it's not scientific! :o

Where is this list actually sourced from? Googling for a BBC book list challenge only seems to bring up this list which is from 2003 and doesn't include the fucking Da Vinci code. I mention that one specifically as I'm amazed to see it any list of books apart from "Stuff you should avoid reading unless you're looking to be both depressed and amused in equal measure."

It's a very silly list. While The Hobbit and Dan Brown are there, where is "The Brothers Karamazov" and "The Sound and the Fury"?

Also, there's an absence of relevant contemporary authors like Cormac McCarthy, Phillip Roth or José Saramago.

There are also many other Sci-Fi books that could have been chosen instead.

The book selection is probably the middle bit of a distribution curve, or chosen to put readers roughly into part of a curve based on what they read.

That reads like a competition entry to write a sentence that sounds like it should make sense but, on close examination, is gibberish.

Also 52 of Terry Pratchett's books (most of them that he's written except for the 'specials' like The Science of Discworld, and none of the very recent ones).

27 of the books in the OP. That said, there are a lot of crappy girly ones on that list, so it was never going to be that high a score.

Yeah, I don;t score terribly much on that one either. Same digits as GJ. Not quite the same order.

(Although it wouldn't surprise me if I had seen more and just don't recognise the name or remember)

I've read 35 of the books on the first list, 56 of the Pratchett books and watched 64 of the films.

(Can you tell I'm bored? And on a Saturday night too. The shame)
