So i aciddentally formatted my 2nd hard drive. I had lots of import stuff there. From what i gather online, the best program to solve this is testdisk, but i can find any files to recover using that program.

The hard drive was NTFS and was formatted to FAT32.

Since the default folder for downloads was in that hard drive, i also downloaded Testdisk to it. I suppose this isn't good news.

Is there any way to recover all my stuff?

I've always been impressed with this. Download and install it to a different drive, tick whatever the option is for mega-super-recovery (deepscan?), then go and do something else for a bit before being marvelled at how much it thinks it can recover.
Downloading something to the same drive shouldn't do too much damage, unless it happens to have overwritten something you really needed to recover.

But of an arse, but mightn't it be quicker just to restore your data from a backup?

I'm guessing no backup.

I have a backup which is about 2 or 3 months old, which means there is some stuff that isn't there. Besides, all my gaming/emulation stuff isn't backed-up.

Ok, now I'm concerned. If you need any emulation stuff then let me know as I'll happily burn some DVDs for you to replace what you've lost.

Can't someone just download anything they might need? The idea of having to burn discs and post them around the place is pretty archaic surely?

You're right, it is. Fuck you Ruysan... You're on your own! ;)

Nah, seriously now. It is, I agree but you can spend ages downloading individual roms so doing a DVD could be quicker in that sense and a complete MAME rom set is pretty hefty. It could take a while depending on your internet connection.

Thanks much The Vision, but i actually managed to recover the files with this iCare program.

And yes, it's quite an hassle to recover all the romsets since Underground gamer disappeared. Also there's all the savegames and highscore tables. Fortunately i can keep playing my current session of Aria of Sorrow.
