April Cover Revealed – Batman: Arkham Knight

The developer that made Arkham a household name is back. Rocksteady Studios' Arkham Asylum innovated with the freeflow combat system and stalking gameplay in 2009, and the team blew it all out to an open world in 2011's Arkham City. Rocksteady is hoping to raise the bar even higher on what will be its final Arkham game. Set after the events of Arkham City, Batman: Arkham Knight may just end the Dark Knight's journey.

As you've probably guessed from the cover imagery, the Batmobile is finally a core element of the gameplay. An entirely new area of Gotham City, far larger than Arkham City, has much wider streets to accommodate the new driving gameplay that is designed to integrate smoothly with Batman's gliding and grappling traversal. Batman chases down super villains Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, and more.

Arkham Knight will release later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. We've got 14 action-packed pages loaded with the first details and a whole month of exclusive content here on gameinformer.com. Get a sneak peek at what's in store in our coverage trailer below

Obviously it's all in the execution, but on paper this sounds a lot like the game I wanted Arkham City to be.

Arkham City was alright, but didn't fully deliver on the potential for an open world batman game.

Arkham Origins was shite.

I think I will go straight from City to this and pretend Oranges never happened.

Origins was fine. It wasn't as good, and it was harder than the previous two, but it was still a bloody good game.

I never finished the first one of these. I thought it was decent but it didn't really grab me. I think maybe I just don't like Batman enough.

Yeah, I can't agree that Origins was shite. Origins was excellent, just not as good as City or Asylum, both of which must rank as two of the best games ever. To be not quite as good as either of them doesn't make the game 'shite' by a very long margin.

I don't think it was any harder than the previous two but I agree it was still a very good game. It was buggy as all shit though which did put a bit of a downer on it for me.

Hmm, I can't think that I've encountered any bugs (save for not being able to play the fan game on release day). I've not finished it yet, mind.

If they put a driving section in I'm going to be sad.

I could only play it on release day by taking the console offline so that wasn't a brilliant start; and throughout my run it would hard crash the entire console at least once a night, often more. I don't think I encountered any functional bugs granted, but the crashing was bad enough.

It's not an exclusive, don't fret. No need to buy a demonstrably inferior console.

I encountered one bug in Origins where I got stuck between a stair bannister and a wall but apart from that, it was fine.

I know but it's not coming out on the 360 so I'll have to upgrade. I've already decided that I'll buy an Xbox one eventually.

I didn't think Arkham Origins was too bad, but I agree the other two were much better.
One of the main things that annoyed me in Origins was that it seemed like there wasn't as many places the grapple could attach to as there was in City. (But stupid but hey, I found moving around the city so much quite annoying)
I'll probably just get it for the PC. I don't plan on getting a new console anytime soon. (Would rather spend the month upgrading my now-kinda-old PC)

More details, including the guy who played Joel from TLoU as Two Face, and Nolan North playing Penguin. Plus the original Arkham Asylum/City Batman voice actor returns:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014- ... -in-detail

No loading screens, game world five times larger than City. Also no multiplayer!

Prediction: publisher pressure will have that shit shoe-horned in at the last minute, possibly even by a separate dev team.

Have you actually read the article?
Quote:
Arkham Knight won't have any multiplayer. "This is a single-player game," stated Hill. "There is no multiplayer.

"We don't have the time to do multiplayer. We want to focus on making the best single-player experience we can. We don't feel that it needs a multiplayer element. Warner Bros. backed that up right at the start."

It's not a driving section, you'll need to use the Batmobile to get around because it's so HUGE.

Can't wait, I'll be buying to play over xmas.
Be glad to not play another Assassin Creed game over the festive period.

Edit - Unless a Fallout game is announced at E3 for release this year.

I'd be very surprised if this year. 2015 I think hopefully it will be next gen machines only. I'm hoping this E3 we will see developers focusing on the PS4/XB1/PC releases only without having to make a version for 360/PS3.

I think your still going to see 4 versions for at least this year with the older systems falling back slightly next year.

This nonsense must be driving the developers insane, imagine having to develop and test four versions (+ the PC as well in most cases) of everything. I'd rather see them plowing all their resources in the 'next gen' versions rather than dividing up their staff and potentially making compromises to get stuff running on the 360/PS3, which would also encourage people to upgrade and mean the industry can move on quicker.

I think we will see more games at E3 go PS4/XB1/PC only this year. Batman Arkham Knight for one is not coming out on 360/PS3

Nicely back on topic !

(FYI should not be a surprise but the version of Titanfall with the most sales at this point is the 360 version)

I hadn't played any games at all in nearly a month until Mario Kart 8 came out, so I really have no inclination to buy another console to gather dust right now.

Hopefully things will all change again once I get my own place.
