Don't be ridiculous. A meringue wouldn't last five minutes in a flood.

Respected weatherman Paul Hudson agrees with you:

With much more rainfall on the way in the coming days across all parts of the UK, this winter is certain to end up one of the wettest ever recorded.

The level of coverage in the media of the resulting flooding across the UK has been virtually unprecedented in the last few weeks.

The pictures of extensive flooding in Somerset, and the battering our coast has received, particularly in Cornwall, have been breath-taking.

But it is worth putting the current flood in context, and as distressing as it is to be flooded, the number of properties affected in the south of the UK is tiny compared to other floods in previous years.

For example, up until this weekend the total number of properties affected by floodwater in Somerset in the last few weeks is 40.

But during the coastal surge in early December last year, 688 properties were flooded along the Yorkshire coast alone, and according to the Environment Agency, flood defences protected 66,000 properties in the Yorkshire and Humber area at that time.

Since last week, between 800 and 900 properties have flooded in the UK, primarily in southern Britain.

Although this number may rise significantly in the next few days, particularly with the Thames now at record levels in relatively highly populated parts of Berkshire and Surrey, it is still comparatively small compared to the last big flood to hit the UK.

That was In June 2007 and far more people were affected; in the Yorkshire and Humber region alone, a staggering 23,479 homes were flooded, along with 3,718 businesses.

Thanks Pete. Shows how laughable the current coverage is.

Err... right, OK. So, since 8.30am this morning, I've been contacted by ITV Central News, BBC Radio Shropshire, BBC Midlands Today, The One Show and Sky News.

Rather unexpected.

Do you have an answer as to whether what you used to take the video is legal?

Is there a phone number members of the public can call with questions while you are live on air?

:D

It's all legal provided I don't take any money for it. Which is frustrating, because I've had offers.

They've even offered me jobs to go and film flooding in other areas for them. I was tempted to say I'd do it, but only if they donated my "fee" to various flood-relief charities or whatever, but I'm not sure if that's legal either.

If you take video for commercial gain, you need a licence from the Civil Aviation Authority. Not sure why, but them's the breaks.

The insurance issue was basically that I wasn't insured, but I am now, so it's no longer a problem.

Plus there are some extra rules if you have video equipment attached I think, for DPA reasons.

How difficult is it to get a licence? Might be worth doing if it is relatively easy so you can take paid work in the future :)

Sell it anyway, and then fight the lawsuit that never materialises because it's a stupid law.

What if he didn't take the video for commercial gain, then happens to gain commercially at a later date, having not planned to do so? Yo can't make something illegal retrospectively.

The signoff was odd. What naturally-occurring object did they think you'd be able to film the floods from the air with?

Just seen the news footage, really good. I'm can't believe how the CAA can dictate what people do with remote control (quadrocopters), who do they think they are?

Sell what you can as I doubt anything who ever stand up in court

This is making me want to buy one, learn how to fly then then video and sell what the hell I like :DD

Solution: make tiny pollen-sized cam. Put it near a flower. Along comes Mr Bee. Bzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzz zzzzzzzzz. Mr Bee picks up pollen can and goes bzzzzzzz zzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz in search of a new flower. This might be a very long way because of the floods :( All the while he is diligently and unknowingly making your wonderful films!

Find Mr Bee. Agree a deal to swap his grain of 'pollen' for a fancy new hat.

Extract footage from pollen cam and sell for meeeeellions of pounds. When the authorities come knocking, blame the bee!

(Don't worry, Mr Bee is safe from prosecution as the authorities will never be able to identify THAT bee, as they all look quite bee-like)

There is no radar below 1000 feet or so, as such not sure how they can know what is going on!

I thought there were rules coming out on these and drones etc, that Amazon "Drone" Delivery website said the were waiting for them to come out.
