I find it rather baffling that people are willing to pay so much for so little.

See also: Those trading cards on steam. I've got over £5 out of them now, I think. Why do people buy them? Aside from the ability to have a badge stating they have more money than sense.

I certainly wouldn't pay for pretty guns on Counter Strike. And after not paying for my beautiful P90, I certainly wouldn't pay to rename it with a silly name.

Oh no.

Not me.

I'm having such a bad day. I can't get into my work at all. I mean, I'm physically here but mentally, I just can't get into this task. This may or may not be a direct result of plans for our weekend away to watch the rugby being massively in danger of not going ahead. I can't decide whether I'm primarily frustrated, angry or upset and there is absolutely nothing I can do to change the outcome of this situation.

Aw that sucks flis, I'm sorry! Can you make alternate plans so as if it doesn't go ahead you still have something decent to look forward to?

That's really stupid. It should be spelled 'necknomination'.

And pronounced neeknahmonishun of course.

But downing a pint of beer, is not really stupid. It is not likely to kill anyone.

It's not particularly sensible either.

You never choose a good beer.. A normal cooking beer is adequate.

I don't wish to pay for not good beer, that just encourages them.

Plus it usually makes me feel very ill long before drunkenness is an issue

Yeah, it's a bit shit. Not really, the issue is that any time we would want to go away, we're relying on someone else to keep their end of an agreement and just when you think everything is okay, they throw a major spanner in the works. So, there's no way round it for a while.

It reviewed well so I'm sure you'll be fine. My issues with it were two-fold:

  • No matter how far through a level you get if you're spotted it's either genuine game-over (a few of the levels require you not to be spotted at all) or might as well be because you'll just get gunned down by the sudden influx of bad guys. So you can genuinely lose half an hour's worth of play just for making a single mistake because you'll get sent right back to the start; and not only is life too fucking short but it gets boring going through the same beginning section of a level over and over just to get to the bit you're struggling with. I've traditionally played SP games on the PC where you could save whenever you wanted to so you could afford to take a few risks without worrying about pissing lots of playtime down the drain. Although I played the last one on the Xbox as well and thoroughly enjoyed it so I can't say for sure why this one's just irritating me in that respect.
  • It no longer knows whether it wants to be an actual stealth game or not. Entire levels are set in sunny environments and one of the levels threw waves of baddies at you to see how long you could survive. The last game flirted with that kind of thing but generally stuck to the stealth; this one goes out a bit further and it's enough to turn me off.

There were other issues with it not explaining itself very well in a lot of cases plus the controls are really badly designed (something like four button presses to change your goggles to a different type) but those are minor.

Splinter Cell games haven't been good since Chaos Theory, which must be over ten years old. Surprised they're still flogging that particular dead horse.

They only really did another one after Chaos Theory, Double Agent, which was the same as the previous ones whereas the last one, Conviction, did make quite a lot of changes to be fair. I can see why a lot of people like the new ones and fair play to them for genuinely doing something to shake the franchise up, they just haven't got the balance right in Blacklist for my tastes.

Conviction was fucking amazing, you tool. I haven't had so much fun with another person since that time I did your mum in the bottom.

I can imagine it being more fun with another person actually. A lot of the missions in the new one can be done either single player or co-op and even have routes through the level you can only open if there's two of you so it's obviously designed with that in mind. In a move of stunning irony though, the missions that you absolutely have to stealth and you fail if you're seen are called 'Grim Missions' in the new game.

Also, I now know what my dream house looks like and will need to hire the person who designed the Hawkins Seafort level to make it for me when I win the lottery.

Even the worst game is made palatable by co-op.

Okay, aaaages ago, there was a program on BBC that I think was about horses and the wild west, and (I think it was) Mali (that) made a post about the presenter, who looked very pretty even without makeup.

Does anyone know who she was?

I just encountered a charity shop game collector. He picked up a couple of PSone games (They were scratched, I checked) and he proceeded to go to a corner of the shop to look on ebay on his phone.

Kind of similar to what I do but it's my spreadsheet and not ebay.

I looked at him with as much scorn as I could muster.
