I've seen Taken, didn't really get on with it very well... It tried to be serious, and if you're going to break all the laws and walk away at the end, it needed to take itself much less seriously. You know what you're getting with Statham; he could walk onto a plane with a(n) RPG and it'd be perfectly acceptable because it'd fit within the preconceptions you have of that kind of film. I came away from Taken thinking "That's ridiculous", I came away from Safe thinking "That was amazing, he's so bad-ass!"

I will see what I can do to 'procure' the other films, thanks chaps :)

This is unfair, I'm being mocked for being a sentimentalist.

I thought you shared his love of chick flicks... I do apologise :)

No! It isn't a massive live! More a "tjat was better than expected".

As silly as it sounds, I don't want to see it because the lead guy in reality is a massive prick who screwed loads of people over and ripped them off and to this day still profits and is massively rich and just ignoring the massive debts he was court ordered to pay. Which I find annoying.

Doesn't sound silly, and the film does a good job of making if clear that he's an outright prick.

Yes indeed, Grim..., but I don't think we should be rewarding the chap who's "won" despite being a complete prick with a 2 hour long advert about how much he's "won".

I'd feel profoundly uncomfortbbale watching a film knowing that the guy it's about is probably sat there frotting off to it.

Curio, Russell disagrees with you.

I can't be arsed to google to find out which of you is right, so could you just have a shouty argument about it and I'll side with the winner.

I haven't seen it myself yet but isn't it just supposed to be describing a character you'll love to hate? Like how Hannibal Lecter usually wins, I don't think those films made people more kindly disposed towards serial killers in general.

It's not that it is about a bad fictional person, and glorifying them, it's glorifying an actual person who did actual bad things and who is still rich as fuck and laughing at us all and profiting from breaking laws.

More jail time and only released to work for the government as a 'good guy'. Mr Belfort is still a millionaire directly from his illegal activities.

He also has a cameo in the movie, as the guy that introduces his own character (played by Leo obv.) at the end before he comes on stage.

One star review by The Guardian.

http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/fe ... cop-review

Rotten Tomatoes has it at 50% fresh

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1200731-robocop/

Overall I'd say I'm interested enough to give it a try.

I'm still going to watch it.

The decider for me is what Kermode thinks, of course. He's like the Nirjhenenenenengenenege of film reviews.

An incredibly dumb film about magicians than perform heists during their shows. Even while being way too stupid it had some entertaining parts.

he twittered something about it being better than road to perdition, but then so's being stabbed in the face with Craster's arse.

He reviewed it on today's 5 live thing with Mayo, but I missed it.
