I just thought I would bring this to people's attention. ecosia.org is a search engine which donates 80% of its profit to rainforest renewal* which is the sort of thing I can get behind - especially when I don't need to do anything. I have no idea how good a search engine it is, but I know there is more than one person here who dislikes google's data gathering. Anyway, go plant some trees.

In their "share" section they provide ideas of how to spread the word about ecosia, one is:

Quote:
Print out some Ecosia posters and post them around your neighborhood, school or business.

Can't help but feel that is a slightly circular goal.

*allegedly

Looks legit. Happy to give it a try - can't be worse than Bing.

Are you not getting on with Bing? I try to use but I must admit, it's not the best. The backgrounds are nice though.

Bing is the default search option on my phone but it does an annoying thing in that it tries to search my local area at the same time as doing a normal search. This is all well and good but I know for a fact that there's no "3DO Iso sites" in Dudley.

It's just not a very good search engine.

Ha. The results for ecosia are taken from Bing and the adverts by Yahoo. At least according to http://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecosia

Its still better than using bing alone though.

I thought it might be something like that. Still, better than nothing.

We did some blind tests with Google, Bing and Ask, and Bing was the favourite by some margin.

I still use Google though, but only because it understands that I want practically every result to point at Stack Overflow.
