I'm so excited as we hardly ever go away (we've been on mini-breaks to Dublin and Prague in the last few years) and just wanted to share.

Is anyone else going anywhere nice either this year or next?

Strangely enough, I'll be in Vegas during your honeymoon.

Long weekend in Hopton with girlfriend and her family in a few weeks. Not really looking forward to it to be honest.

Then my girlfriend is dragging me to Disneyland Paris in December, again. She is abit of a disney freak. She doesn't like roller-coasters so I get the fun of riding them myself.

That honeymoon looks great. A little bit of everything.

Weird that! We should meet up for a drink or something.

Coincidentally, our honeymoon (October-November) appears to be a subset of yours - ten nights at the Moon Palace, followed by ten nights at the Luxor.

Great. Now I'm going to get abused for missing the official Vegas meet!

Well I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about me being off to the US, it turns out that Sam only realised that my Dad and Jackie are coming to Florida with us yesterday (no idea why he didn't know this) and he stropped off saying "It's supposed to be a holiday!". Umm and it won't be now because?

I was hoping to go to south Africa next year, but that might not be happening now. I was planning two weeks in Florida the year after that then maybe Japan 2011?

But at the moment Jazzy J makes plans and God laughs, so we will see.

I'm going to Driggs, Idaho for a couple of weeks in October to see the in-laws.

Nice trip you've got planned there myp, I'm insanely jealous. I just hope the weather you get is better than the weather I got the last time I visited the States.

That trip sounds awesome, and so do everybody else's. You'll all have great times.

I have nothing planned for this year — I just can't afford it, though I've already been to France and Malta so I can't complain.

I'm trying to save to go to Australia next year, if I can, which should be awesome if it ever comes to fruition. But life is getting expensive very quickly, and my wages aren't rising to match it all, so I feel poorer every day. Ho hum.

I'm confused... how are you all able to tell when myoptika is going? Is there some obscure option I'm not seeing?

We *might* go to Zante again this year, but I'm not sure how likely that is, to be honest. And my plans for a weekend getaway this weekend are more or less ruined by the fact that it's supposed to rain.

Unless I am blind (and I've just read that site again for the 20th time) nowhere do you or it say WHAT DATES you are going. But I suppose you can be smug, you're going to Oahu to re-enact Test Drive. Be sure to dump Ange on the side of the road, and then come past again to pick her up.

I think it's more of a case of Curiosity's head slowly appearing over the side of their bed and staring at them.

My mid life crisis plan involves riding large motorbikes from Montana to Vegas, then selling the bike and gambling the proceeds. We should all do it!

Then have her complain and force you to stop if you either break the 55mph limit or take more than 2mins to travel 5 miles.

Mrs C is also up for going to Vegas. She may just meet us there and gamble our proceeds, though.

Women get cheaper hotel rooms in Vegas, in Mrs C's experience, so leave it to the birds to book and then rock up with your bags.

Can't ski But its an awesome country nonetheless.

Make sure you take gambling monies. You WILL gamble in Vegas. Set yourself a limit, and no more. Oh and play something that's fun, blackjack and craps are good bets. Stay away from slots and roulette. Less likely to do something dumb. Like visiting the cash machine.

Sage advice there

My theory of gambling:

Set yourself a limit, say, $100*. You can feel free to piss this away if you keep losing, but once it's gone you stop.

However, if you win and end up above $100, only then piss away what you've won until you're back to the original $100. That way you've had some fun and have the same amount you came in with. Or, if you have a big win, consider stopping while you're ahead, obv.

*you can, of course, set aside more gambling money if you like. Or just do the normal thing and have to sell a kidney for passage home on a Chinese slave ship.

Important question though - what should I take, box of red wine or quality single malt whiskey with hip flask?

I have left Vegas a winner the only two times I ave been there.

Admittedly, not a lot (200 and 100 dollars, roughly). Last time my best day I won 300 dollars, my worst I lost about 150. One morning I set a budget of 50 for the morning, 50 for the afternoon... I lost the whole 100 in ten minutes on roulette... lost another 100 twenty minutes after too... down to my last 20 dollars, and somehow through Blackjack and Roulette managed to turn it back into 200 dollars over the next two hours, making me only 20 dollars down for the session. Maria had been off getting a massage. We met up and she was utterly relaxed whilst I was there, only 20 dollars down, but shaking as if I'd just nailed twenty espressos!

Oooh...Hawaii is brilliant. Having honeymooned in Waikiki recently I can thoroughly recommend it.

Tips

Get out of Waikiki at some point. It is a very nice place to relax and stuff, however, the beach is tiny and it is imported sand. Waikiki/Honolulu is like a much, much more upmarket Blackpool, very, very tourist orientated.

If you can get to Sandy Beach (about 15 mins drive) then you find much better surf and sand.

Take a Circle Island Tour which includes Pearl Harbour. This takes you to some brilliant places and PH itself is unforgettable. I normally hate tours but our guide was simply brilliant. It is also just about the only way you'll see Pearl Harbour at any reasonable hour, if at all.

Hire a car for a day or two, head to the North of the Island and have lunch at Giovannis Shrimp Truck. And then go to the Byodo-In Temple, which is amazing.

Macadamia Nuts are the food of the gods.

If you don't eat once at Cheeseburger in Paradise, you'll regret it.

You probably won't have time to visit Big Island for any length of time, but if you can get a helicopter flight over Kilauea and the Volcano National Park, I can recommend it.

Want to go back. The only thing we would change is we wouldn't stay in Waikiki again. Not, I stress, because it is bad but because it was a little too touristy for our tastes - the wife and I are very independent when travelling. We did love Turtle Bay Resort when we wanted to pamper ourselves rotten on Oahu.

i only went to Prague and Vienna this year. Every time i travel its nice, but a waste of money in the end, as i like my country much more than everything else, and i'd rather spend my time in the beach surfing, which is much cheaper.

The favorite place i've been besides my lovely nearby beaches is definitely Ireland. I also recommend Finland just for the awesomeness of the people there, saunas, and gorgeous girls.

Everywhere else in the world stinks.
