In the last couple of weeks it seems Bethesda’s publishing company “Zenimax” registered a website at http://thesurvivor2299.com/ and have begun two countdowns, one for in three days and the other for 11/12. They’ve also been sending out morse code signals and other shit via the website detailed below:

15/11
Quote:
11.12.13, 12.11.13

21/11
Quote:
Calling Any Station, Calling Any Station, Calling Any Station, This is From OZ (Oscar Zulu?), Please Wait

Message with phone number:
Quote:
Nuclear winter is coming. Reserve your future home today! 877-260-2299

phone number played some music for a few days then went dead

22/11
Quote:
”MY DEAR SISTER. I’M HEADING TO THE INSTITUTE. GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS PLACE NOW. THIS OLD BASTARD WILL HELP US. HE MUST HELP US. –0321–”

24/11
Quote:
“Bridgeport, this is Concord (MA), message: Quabbin Reservoir is hit, repeat, Quabbin Reservoir is hit, over.

25/11
Quote:
NCRA UNIT BST 314 7 EMRG MSG NEW YORK STAGE 7 WASHINGTON STAGE 7 LOS ANGELES STAGE 7 AUSTIN STAGE 7 CHICAGO STAGE 7 NEW ORLEAN STAGE 7 LAS VEGAS UNKNOWN MIAMI STAGE 7 DALLAS STAGE 7 DENVER STAGE 7 SAN DIEGO STAGE 7 SAN FRANCISCO STAGE 7 BOSTO-

26/11
Quote:
“Calling all stations, calling all stations, calling all stations, this is Vault Technician 2510730 one six emergency Vault-Tec shelter for survivors in Quabbin, number 119, repeat, emergency Vault-Tec shelter for survivors in Quabbin, number 119, over”

27/11
Quote:
“Calling all stations, calling all stations, calling all stations. Boston is gone, I repeat, Boston is gone. No Hope. Frequency 3450 Return Transmission. God Bless America.”

There’s been some other things, such as a radio frequency in Boston intermittently broadcasting air raid sirens and messages such as “IM SECURE” and garbled voices. so it appears fallout 4 is on the way and is set in boston, and Bethesda have set up quite a good viral marketing/alternate reality launch countdown.

If only it were Obsidian doing the story and dialogue rather than Bethesda.

Metal Angel's diaries - one of his main ones starts at the bottom of this page

http://metalangel.deadjournal.com/?skip=40

I really enjoyed Fallout 3 , much more than Oblivion or Skyrim - it really tries to present you with a real word with lots of history and plenty of things to do - if you got distracted it may be better to begin again from the start but I'd say its worth at least another try.

New Vegas is a far superior game to Fallout 3, so if you want to play New Vegas, don't play it first - start with F3 and then move on to NV.

Annoyingly I never did finish New Vegas. If I'm totally honest, I preferred the world of Fallout 3, though there's no denying that New Vegas was a terrific game.

I much preferred NV - all the locations were real places, which is just so much more interesting to me.

I did finish NV but agree with everything else you've said here. Maybe FO3 simply benefitted from being 'new' to me but I definitely enjoyed it more than NV. The over-arching plot and factions and whatnot could be argued to be more interesting in NV, but that was always secondary to me and the real thrill was just discovering what was over the next hill. FO3 rewarded random exploring much more than NV did and was just packed with lots more cool stuff to find; NVs vaults never came close to FO3's for instance.

The thing that bothered me about FO3 was that the locations all seemed disconnected from each other, and didn't make sense. There's all these settlements that are seemingly surviving entirely on 200 year old irradiated food, like packets of Sugar Bombs and Cram and what-not.

In NV, Obsidian went out of their way to show things like farmsteads and other means of producing food and resources, which made the world seem entirely more believable to me. The exploration was a bit poorer, certainly, but at least the world felt real.

Weren't the ones in F3 also real?

I preffered F3 to NV

That only presents a problem if you're mentally doing that level of analysis while playing the game I suppose. Personally I wasn't and was happy to accept it all as 'video game logic'; and so was happy to accept an arguably more fun game regardless of the level of realism. I mean it's absolutely a fair point if you're considering how the world they've built would function, but it's not a barrier for me to enjoy the game.

The town built around an unexploded bomb and the town on an aircraft carrier? No.

Well, I guess, but neither do any of the vaults; if you are going to take it to that level.

I never liked Fallout 3 because there was too much story tied up in books and crap.

I'm not reading one book etc.

Especially when I'm supposed to be playing a game.

The city layout was legit though, yes? I seem to remember JC being super excited about it.

It was pretty good - but all the locations in NV are legit, pretty much.

So, in summary, both games had a mixture of real and entirely fictional locations?

He's just upset he didn't have to smother the bomb in Megaton to stop it going off.

I liked NV more. Fallout 3 felt like a bunch of Monster of the Week episodes of a TV series, NV felt like a more coherent story.

Also, several systems were inproved, notably conversation checks.

I couldn't get on with NV at all, played a few hours then just never went back to it. Not really sure why but it just didn't grip me at all in the same way that 3 did. I just much preferred the setting of 3 I think. Whether or not it is exactly like some place I've never been to anyway is irrelevant, it felt like an actual place. Also the radio was loads better.

Even though NV had better story and dialogue, F3 was much more fun to explore. There were lots of memorable places like Tempenny Tower, Dunwich building, little lamplight and republic of dave. I hardly remember any sites from NV.

F3 was better site wise except for Washington DC, that part was rubbish

Lapped up Fallout 3 and all the DLC.

Played New Vegas until I got into the Casinos. Then couldn't be arsed with it anymore.

I'm seeing a fair bit of supposition that the Survivor 2299 stuff is a hoax.
