I just made a Guardian team. I didn't let it pick my team at random, instead I picked a team more or less at random myself. I'll join a BETEO league if anyone sets one up. Then you can laugh at me.

I will happily join any and all leagues, if someone sets 'em up.

Okay, I just set one up on The Guardian's web site.

The league is BETEO and the password is excellent.

Come laugh at my team!

Ditto. They're running a mini-league thing at work so I finally got round to making a team up yesterday. I've not put a great deal of thought into my team though as I know very little about the best players.

I've just done a works one on skysports.com. Again, I have no idea about this football lark but went with the idea of picking defenders and a goalkeeper who are very very unlikely to play with the thinking that the any appearance points I would not gain would be offset set by them not losing points for conceding goals and then having more money left to buy the more expensive midfielders and strikers who would be very likely to appear and score loads of goals.

No idea whether this plan will work or not though.

I'm used to slightly simpler rules than the Guardian, but I'll see if I can knock something together.

Edit - The scoring is a bit in-depth isn't it?

I am in. Hoping for a Man City exodus sooner rather than later.

I'd prefer a draft style one, like how American Football fantasy games are run.

I have signed up, but I have to say that they could really do with updating the player lists.

Its strange they've added players not in the league straight away but any transfers between teams they havent sorted out.

They don't tend to update transfers between teams once the initial list is done. This means you can sometimes get a few bargains or extra club players because they've been transferred around.

Is Cuellar up yet? Will they get Joaquin up there once we sign him*?

*signing may be fictitious...

Well, we haven't signed either of them (yet), so no.
I may need to rethink having Curtis Davies in my defence.

Well, we've signed Cuellar, and are looking to get Milner, which would do me, I guess.

Bit harsh on Davies who was really good, but with a lot of matches in the season given all the potential cup matches, I think we can't relay on Laursen not breaking, so it's a good move, and keeps Zat Knight from having to ever play.

In fantasy football related news, I intend to do all my teams tonight.

I really can't see us (newcastle) selling milner, well not for 6 million anyway, for a team short on players we need to hang onto our better players or sell them for stupid prices, so I dont think we will unless its double figures.

More people need to join the Guardian one we've got going.

We've got 7 people in the BETEO league thus far, who are:

Dudley
Joans
Curiosity
Romanista
Bobbyaro
Rev Owen
Someone who I don't know, called David.

More people sign up!

:D

On the plus side, I can't do worse than 7th.

I know absolutely nothing about football, but have chosen 15 people who sort of add up to 100m, and will maybe score some points. Huzzah!

Well, I just did it, then it told me 'the selected entry is unavailable' and gave me a blank teamsheet again. Fuck that.

Did you forget to add in yuor subs, or pick too many from one team, or just generally act like an idiot?

Do it again. Properly this time.

Or you'll regret it when we're having Bezzie Fantasy Funtimes.

Oh yes you will.

I've already done a team for the Guardian one, so I've now joined. Team name: Hearts Of Oak(enholt), which I'd like to assure anyone who isn't familiar with South African club football and small towns in North Wales is actually a magnificently clever thing to call a team actually. Ahem.

Last place for my team. I know i didn't put much effort into it, but now i see selecting Malouda was a mistake. Scolari likes to play with pure wingers, and i thought by having only him as a pure one was enough for me.

Why the bloody heck didn't anyone tell me Jo was at the Olympics? Now I've had to put Dean Ashton in his place, just after he's nabbed the only brace he's likely to score this side of Christmas.

3rd in this league (17th in SA's / 98) despite having Gary Neville who didn't play. Replaced him with Matthew Upson.

It would appear that you can. I can't see any sort of deadline, but these things tend to give you a couple of weeks when you can still sign up.

You can but you'll be at something of a disadvantage overall.

It does track "Week" and "Month" too though.

Second place.

I'd be top if I hadn't picked any Spurs players...

Obviously I'm aware that no matches were played on monday afternoon or whatever.
Due to the nature of the scoring, it has to have been something a little more insignificant than a goal.
I'm reasonably sure my keeper is one of the players to lose a point, and for it to be a single point they miscounted one of the following (or it was a combination of things):
Whether or not he appeared in the first half
Whether or not he appeared in the second half
Number of shots on target
Number of accurate crosses
Goals conceded

None of which are particularly difficult to keep track of for a goalie.

Don't the dubious goal panel (or whatver they're called) usually take a few days (weeks?) to review them anyway?

Anyway, sorry if I came across like a moaning git, when I first looked at the scoring it seeemed really overly complicatied so it doesn't really surprise me that they got it a bit wrong. I was just disappointed that I checked them on sunday evening and was top only to find that 24 hours later I could have not been top (although I still am, for now :) ).
