I admit it's unlikely, but I'm clutching at straws. I want to see Eccleston again. :(

His problem was with the production team of the first series. It was an unhappy year for all concerned and Ecclestone fell out with the senior members of the production team, all of whom are long gone.

A relative of Mrs Chinnys worked on it and I heard stories at the time of how tense it was including a female co-star bursting into tears during a shoot.

The only barrier to Ecclestone coming back is Ecclestone. I wouldn't be surprised if Moffat hadn't sweet talked him into a cameo. After all McGann was denying being involved more than most (even went on Australian TV saying how hard done by he was).

I'm going to stick my neck out and say every living Doctor will be in the special with new material in some form or other. They've been setting it up for too long (including the terrible cameos using clips from old episodes at the end of the last series). Moffat was enough of a fanboy to do the McGann episode, he's enough of a fanboy to go the whole hog.

According to this and other sources, he was asked and declined. That's why I'm hoping it's an amazing bluff.

Given all the feedback that he was *not* involved and that wonderful event yesterday its possible , especially as he would have been filming Thor 2 at the time and could probably just have sneeked out in full make up

Davison and Colin Baker are suddenly both tweeting about a newly created Twitter account called - @dayoftheFishDr

No idea but worth keeping an eye on.

My girlfriend's best friend from her schooldays is visiting this week, and has some cinema tickets for the 50th anniversary special. Why hadn't I been informed of that before? Although if it's only in a few venues, like that London, I doubt that I'd get to see it anyway.

(I've had to explain Night of the Doctor several times, incidentally.)

They're doing it at the Broadway Cinema in Nottingham.

I'll be in Southampton though. :'(

There are 3 Cinema's in Southampton showing it

The Odeon (opposite IKEA) seems to have tickets.

I'm still debating going to see it in Fareham (which also has tickets but its a real dump of a cinema)

Does each explanation start with the word 'F*ck' and then you struggle a bit to get beyond that ?

(I'd be interested in how you explain it - the only explanation I had to give was about part of the way through I was asked 'he regenerates into John Hurt doesnt he ?' and I had to say that had not been confirmed ..... then at the end she said 'well its confirmed now')

Went to university there, haven't been there for ages. Hate to imagine how the endless recession's affected the place.

Zaph, yeah, was a struggle to explain, I haven't followed the 8th Doctor Big Finish stories, and no one I know who watches modern DW has seen any classic Who. Oh, and my girlfriend's friend hasn't seen the episode introducing the John Hurt Doctor yet.

It's a knock about romp. Think of it as a greatest hits rather than anything deep or clever.

The McGann clip is now sitting at 1.4 million views on Youtube in just a day and a half.

This pleases me immensely. The underrated forgotten Doctor with just an hour of screen time finally getting some recognition. Wonderful.

They should totally do something with McGann. Do a couple of specials for the 8th Doctor. Or have do a two parter with him and Capaldi, but they don't actually meet. Like they're coming at the same problem from different places in the time stream.

He's too good not to use.

I like how in todays Doctor Who fluff piece on the Beeb the leading image shows the wheels on the bottom of the Dalek :-)

(if you watch the video you see the same image in a much higher res)

There is also a small interview piece which has Tennant / Smith / Hurt (and shows a few seconds more of the episode)

The reason that Night of the Doctor went out when it did was because someone was trying to leak the info about it :-(

Spoiler on casting for the 50th

http://www.nerdist.com/2013/11/the-day- ... re-doctor/

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Sometimes there can be too many cooks in the kitchen, but when it comes to Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor”, we say the more, the merrier. According to The Huffington Post‘s Aaron Sagers, viewers will have one more reason to be excited this Saturday, as another member of Whovian history will be appearing alongside the already confirmed Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt, and Paul McGann. Who could it be? (Stop reading now if you don’t want any spoilers.) Well, I’m glad you asked, because it’s none other than…

…Tom Baker! That’s right, the scarfed one rides again. Was it everything you’d hoped it would be and more?

In an interview with Huffington Post, Baker was surprisingly candid about his involvement. “I am in the special,” he said. “I’m not supposed to tell you that, but I tell you that very willingly and specifically; the BBC told me not to tell anybody, but I’m telling you straightaway.” Right cheeky of you, Doctor, but we’re glad you told us nonetheless.

Also known as the Fourth Doctor, Baker has often been cited as the best version of the eponymous character since the show premiered on November 23, 1963, although I’m sure Tumblr would have something to say about that. Apart from Paul McGann, he is the only classic Who actor confirmed to be returning for the special, although this does beg the question of whether or not we could expect to see Christopher Eccleston, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, or Sylvester McCoy make guest appearances. The BBC has repeatedly denied any such rumors, and their only statement has been this: ”As with William Hartnell’s recent appearance in the last season finale, anything is possible in Doctor Who. But nothing is certain.”

In regards to the specifics of his appearance, Baker was spotty, only noting that the circumstances around his character’s appearance were “extraordinary.” He also added that “it worked out very well, I think, judging by the reactions of the technicians.” You’ll be able to judge for yourself this Saturday once “The Day of the Doctor” airs at 2:50 PM ET. Don’t forget to tune early to catch our Doctor Who live pre-show, either!

Adventures with the wife in space on the Beeb

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-24914229

Quote:
Doctor Who fan's wife's epic labour of love

When Neil Perryman decided to call in a favour his wife owed him, he perhaps did not realise what a labour of love it would turn out to be. The diehard Doctor Who fan persuaded Sue to watch all 697 episodes of the show. Two and a half years later their journey through time and space was complete.

Beginning in January 2011 - with the viewings organised in strictly chronological order - the couple sat down to supper at their home in Elwick, near Hartlepool, and watched one of the programmes.

Sue Perryman, a lecturer in media at Sunderland University, said: "I started blonde and now I'm grey."

When they met, in 1993, Neil hid his "fanboy status" at first, and for years confined his Doctor Who viewings to late at night on his own.

Then came Sue's "crazy project" to build a house.

"With a few other members of my family, we took over a group of redundant farm buildings and renovated them into homes for each of us," she said.

"I told him it was going to take a year and we would have to live in a caravan.

"It took longer than we thought, and we ended up in it for three years, along with a dog, a cat, and a daughter who was doing A Levels at the time.

"So I owed him a favour."

About two years' later Neil decided to call it in.

By that time Doctor Who was back on the TV screens, and Sue was watching it, although she had never seen any of the classic series.

He set up a blog - Adventures with the Wife in Space - and they began watching from the beginning on official DVDs and old VHS recordings.
Blog Adventures with the Wife in Space became a popular blog

The missing episodes were covered by a combination of reconstructions including photos of TV screens, recordings on reel to reel tape, and animations, mostly made by other fans.

Neil said: "We watched in chronological order, the aim was an episode a night, although life sometimes got in the way and you'd miss one.

"If you had a busy week then they'd get back up so you'd end up spending the weekend watching."

It was not always easy going, and surprisingly, it was the Doctor Who fan who found it more of a problem.

"He struggled a bit sometimes because he knew what was coming," Sue said.

"While I was a fresh pair of eyes and didn't know whether it was going to be good or bad."

Neil said: "I expected Sue would give up because some of the early black and white ones are heavy to watch.

"If I knew, for instance, that a not-so-good 12 part one was coming up then I'd want out.

"The blog was a kind of trap I set myself. If I gave up everyone would know. It was an incentive to keep going."

When it comes to the big question - favourite doctor, Patrick Troughton - or "the scruffy drunk" as they sometimes referred to him - trumped the others, as far as Sue was concerned.

"I never used to watch as a kid, so wasn't aware of him, but Matt Smith reminds me of him, something about his mannerisms."

Neil added: "And his bow tie. My favourite was Tom Baker, I think he was the first actor who really believed he was the doctor."

Watching again made him realise quite how violent and frightening the classic series was.

"There were things you wouldn't get away with nowadays," he said.

"In Terror of the Autons aliens dressed as police officers and questions were raised in the House of Commons because it was thought it would make children frightened of the police.

"There was also one in which dolls came to life and strangled children, and they used to shoot dogs all the time. Sue hated that."

The couple wrote a book about the project, and they are now considering what to do next.

Ideas include building a house from scratch, taking up archery and even tackling another TV sci fi classic, Blake's 7.

"I'm looking forward to it," Sue said.

"I've not seen it, it's much shorter than the Doctor Who series, not such a marathon. And we'll be together."

Neil added: "When we started on Doctor Who, friends joked that it would end in divorce. The irony is that it's brought us closer together."

Hmmm, are they Timelords/Gallifreans or humans? If the latter, what are they doing on Galifrey. Were we drafted into the war?

Hmmm, are they Timelords/Gallifreans or humans? If the latter, what are they doing on Galifrey. Were we drafted into the war?

Pretty sure they are supposed to be other time lords - the doctor in the past has said he was at the fall of Arcadia

The BBC's constant Doctor Who trailers and programming on all channels and stations is really doing my head it at the moment...

It seems this went up on itunes earlier and due to a mistake it was 'charged' for the UK and not for NA which has got some people going mad :-)

No longer exists.

Looking for other copies but it seems the BBC keep taking the various mirrors down - its called "The Last Day" so might be worth searching youtube about it later - or i'm sure it will be on itunes which seems to be where the BBC wanted to release it before they messed it all up

Some pages talking about it (spoilers if you have not been able to find it yet)

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-11- ... e-says-bbc

http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2013/11/th ... 03008.html

http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/last ... nt-2813751

http://metro.co.uk/2013/11/20/doctor-wh ... e-4194378/

Ahh - found one where the link still works

http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/50th-minis ... -55748.htm

Go to the second 'image' down and hit play and the minisode will play (or at least it does for me right now)

Interesting, cheers. Looks like we're going to find out about the Last Great Time War, at last.
