I need a new graphics card to speed up my gaming 'rig'. It'll be paired (for now) with a C2D with 4GB DDR2, but it may get a faster base in the future. Looking to play recent-ish games at 1080p. Not bothered about bells and whistles like FSAA and AF, just looking for a decent speed at native resolutions

Looking at a budget of £75-£100.

Any stand out candidates currently?

I like Geforce cards. I've got the M version of this one and I can play LA Noire in 2880x1800:

I'm sure someone who cares about gigaflops/mile will come and tell me it's shit though.

I read that as CD32 but that's probably because I didn't get much sleep last night and my peepers aren't quite working yet.

Aye. The 650M is the mobile version. The 650 desktop version is even more capable from reviews I've read.

I was hoping we wouldn't have to get that far.

Well, Elk's suggestion looks ideal.

But it was 0.58 worse than my suggestion!
That's the last time I help anyone.

The 0.58 was including the price/performance ratio! I included a graph and everything!
Pure favouritism, that's all it is.

It's ok, we can all laugh at him when he only gets 48FPS rather than the 49FPS he could have been experiencing.

Of course, it'll be funny if it's not compatible with his setup.

Which ISA slot do I run the data cable to? Will it work in DOS?

Make sure you disconnect your 56k modem before installation or you'll get a shock.

I'm sure the drivers will come on a floppy in the box, so I won't need my modem

New card arrived, installed and tested. GTA4 runs smooth as butter at 1080p with auto settings. More testing soon. Sleep now.

No problem. Happy to take on the mantle of resident PC specialist.

And then burn it.

In that case add another £3.13 to it, just ordered one for my new budget box.
