Anything exciting happen round your way?

Heard a noise at 6:45am, and looked out the window to see this

Plus the trains to london are off at the moment, due to a tree on the line.

I had to turn around twice on my way to work this morning as there were big trees fallen on the road

I left a bit earlier to allow for problems

Will be chaos for rush hour traffic as there was nobody doing anything about the trees as its far too early to call the council etc

Loved the advice from the government

Highways Agency is advising motorists to check the weather forecast and road conditions before they travel

As long as you plan to travel after lunch when all the fallen tress and other issues have been uploaded to the AA and RAC you will be fine :)

Advice from National Rail is to check the website, which currently is serving a blank page :)

I'm sorry, what?
The trains you sent out to look for fallen trees, have hit fallen trees. Were they a surprise? Were they not expecting them?

Or is this just the quality of english on the BBC these days :)

I got woken up at 6:30 or something by a mega hurricane sound. I scrambled to the flimsy window to close it before it was taken off the hinges. It seems to have settled now. I'm just kind of waiting for a successful train to get through to London and then I'll get the next one. I can't see much carnage from my windows, but some boats in the marina were bobbing round like mad.

It's raining in the midlands. The wind isn't so bad at the mo'.

There are so many (bits of) leaves on the M1 that there is an accretion in between the lanes like snow! You can't see the hard shoulder at one point.

It hasn't stopped raining in Nottingham since yesterday evening, but the buses and trams seem to be running.

It's not been that bad here so far.

It's a fine autumn day in Liverpool. That is to say, it's cold wet and windy.

Mimi said that the two bridges off the Isle of Sheppey are closed, which is where that 8000 car pile up happened in the fog the other week.

My wheelie bin was in a slightly different position to where I left it last night but that could have been because it was emptied this morning.

So, nothing to do with trees on the track, or taking down power lines then? What a detestable cunt of man he really is.

What are those yellow triangles on the road meant to be? A backwards 'give way'?

They're the white triangles that are always on those road-step things, aren't they?

Aye, probably difficult to tell from that angle, but the road at the junction is one big speed hump.

Going to work was fun. Clapham Junction is the busiest station in Europe, when it's closed because every single train line into and out of London is shut down, things get...messy.

Two and a half hour journey into work this morning.

Still no trains from my place. I figure I'm not that important and am taking a leisurely bus route in.

Oh, there weren't for me either. I walked for the better part of an hour to Clapham Common, then queued for the better part of an hour to get on a tube.

How?! Surely bus to Lewisham then the good old bulletproof DLR to Bank gives you a journey time of a bit over an hour?

Bus to North Greenwich and Jubilee Line to London Bridge is my backup route of choice.

I just spent the first few hours of the day watching telly at home because, well, I could.

:D

I'm amused by all the people on various sites who didn't see anything of the storm and doing the usual "why is everyone overreacting? Typical news scaremongering" etc..
4 people dead though, lots of homes without power, trains totally fucked all day, lots of trees down. It wasn't the apocalypse, but it wasn't a storm in a teacup :D either/

Yeah, according to their website southern railway had 40 fallen trees on their lines this morning. That's a hell of a lot of guys with chainsaws to clear that up.

Storm missed South Wales, it's just been wet here. Looks nasty in some parts of Britain though. 170,000 homes without power I saw on the BBC.

The most shocking picture I've seen today is this one on the Daily Mail website.

I mean when this happens and in central London as well, there is simply no hope left.

Hoepfully the Prime Minister and Goverment will divert funds from education and road building to ensure Londoners never have to suffer this again
