If a mobile phone rang you and said they were from papa johns where you'd just ordered pizzas from online, had the order id and total, asking for your card details because their"card provider had rung saying it was possible fraud" would you hand them over?

Because I didn't because WHAT THE FUCK? Eventually I said "send the driver back with a refund receipt and we'll pay cash" and he didn't show.

My card company said the payment went through clear and nothing on their side is flagged.

Then the guy rang back asking for details again and eventually I hung up when he wouldn't tell me full name and his job title seemed a bit fluid. He keeps ringing. Yes, at ten pm.

is this the fraud it so obviously seems to be or is this somehow legitimate business?

More likely to be incompetence I would expect, seems an incredibly obvious and time consuming fraud.

I'd assumed being a franchise chain with a central web office that all card payments are cleared centrally and emailed through - which is why they don't have the full card number in branch.

I just don't see how this isn't an attempt to fraudulently get my card details, though i can see that maybe a dick clicked the cancel button instead of delivered so now they don't get paid by central. That's still fraud and still what the fuck no you didn't just.

my card issuer agrees, saying refusing to hand them over is correct and any problems should result in me being contacted by them, not a retailer after the fact.

Fucking ruined our evening too. I'm still fucking fuming.

But would you have given them over? Are we over-reacting and tinfoil-grade?

Yep. The calls started 4 slices in. I don't see how we get food if the credit chain flags fraud.

Now I can't bloody sleep.

Some of the colleges down the hill wouldn't have had an issue with students bringing birds back to their rooms.

I really wish I'd backed this Kickstarter. Is the book on general release now?

My wifes Grandad passed away in the night. Not entirely unexpected as he was 92 but still, quite sad.

Further adventures of email idiot

"Subj: Infrastructure architect role
Hi Neil
Thank you for your application.
I would like to book a time to do a phone screen with you and for you to come to see us ideally on Friday.

Could you advise of the following;

-what time Thursday morning you can do a phone screen with me
-what time Friday you can come to meet us

Thank you and regards

Rebecca"

I've recommended that she doesn't employ someone who doesn't even know their own email.

That's even more depressing, I'd assumed he was just some non-tech literate fanny but the fact that he's applying for an infrastructure architect role without even knowing his own email address is just mind-boggling.

Why the differentiation?

I've noticed our Transatlantic Cousins seem very fond of inserting the double space.

Because in them oldendays in newspapers all letters had an equal amount of space. This made it harder to see a single space and they decided to use double space to distinguish sentences (although I would think it would be just as hard to distinguish words but there you go).
So only double when all the letters get equal space, even the skinny ones.
Then people (particularly in the us) started thinking it was a rule in stead of something done for convenience, but it never was a rule.

edit: this whole thing might be a popular lie and set off QI horns, but I think it's true

Quote:
It is generally accepted that the practice of putting two spaces after a period (or other punctuation) at the end of a sentence is a carryover from the days of typewriters with monospaced typefaces. Two spaces, it was believed, made it easier to see where one sentence ended and the next began. Most typeset text, both before and after the typewriter, used a single space.

No no no, Kimberley is the annoying one. Arrogant so and so. She's all like "really, you're criticizing me? Whatevs"

Ruby is like Alice from Vicar of Dibley. And modest. And she can bake.

Still, I do agree with Jamie that the whole thing is a feminist conspiracy.

I was amazed she stayed in! Every week Paul says that her cakes look nice but don't taste of anything. She may as well be using Playdoh.
