Having not given a shit about GTA games for, well, ever I'm actually slightly interested in this. Not so much the sandbox stuff as I'm usually left a bit cold by that kind of thing but by the actual missions. I'd very briefly played GTA3 and SA and got quickly bored of both of them; is it safe to assume the core game is much improved since those versions? That's probably a difficult question to answer because I don't remember much about them or the reasons why I didn't like them so apologies for the vagueness there. Although I do remember what seemed like a lot of 'drive to point A, do something trivial, drive to point B, do something else trivial' busy work.

It's an odd game series looking in from the outside because everyone talks almost excusively about the fact that you can play golf or steal a monster truck or just get up to random shenanigans around the map, but the actual core game comes up weirdly rarely. Which does nothing to foster it's, presumably completely unfair, image in my head as nowt but a shiny toybox.

So, yeah, the core actual game missions: are they good fun and worth playing even aside from the sandboxing around them? Not that I'm saying I would just stick to the missions and ignore everything else of course, but they need to stand up on their own or I suspect I'd just get bored.

Turned the 360 on for the first time in 8 months, it did all the Xbox updates, and the homeplug then breaks, as in powers down and won't restart. That has been turned on and 'unused' but still flashing for 8 months and somehow blows the first time it is really used. Impressive.

If you don't use it, it blows quickly the next time you touch it.

I must be a mentalist, because GTA III was my favourite of the last gen, and I loved GTA IV. Seems to be against the grain on this forum.

Although GTA 4 was a bit poo.

I quite London, truth be told. Never got on with GTA 2, felt San Andreas was my favourite GTA for ages simply on account of all the things you could do in that colossal and varied play area, although like many I probably preferred the setting of Liberty City in GTA 3 and didn't think too much of the plot or characters GTA:SA. GTA IV bored me to tears and I never finished it. This, on the other hand, I'm liking lots.

Has anyone met the 'Legalise Weed' stranger as Michael yet? I've just unlocked Michael (haven't had time to really sink my teeth into this yet) and this was one of the first things I did - it's excellent!
